and of course, my landlord waits until the twenty-fourth to cash this month's rent check
luckily i've got february's rent in my savings account
cause i've been pretty well unemployed for the past two months now.
not that i haven't been enjoying it...'it' being sleeping in, spending the days drinking tea and catching up on all those books i've been wanting to read, watching plenty of films, cleaning the apartment and taking long walks around brooklyn, spending lots of time with tom and helping him with his thesis film.
i'd almost forgotten that some people have monday through friday nine-to-fives.
but this not-working, combined with the dual realities of rent and student loans, means living very frugally.
as in, do i really need to spend $2.99 on that magazine? do i really want that $1.75 cup of tea or am i just getting it cause everybody else is getting something?
your definition of luxury changes.
see: sleeping in, spending the days drinking tea and reading art and feminism.
tom's birthday is next week, and i've managed to get him a few little suprises
but to the tune of about $35
and the other nite we saw the brothers quay retrospective at film forum AND had dinner at dojo AND a beer afterwards at grassroots....total of about $20
i've even called around about doing some substitute-teaching, which i didn't really want to do anymore
i'm only a little disappointed that no one's been calling me about that
really i'd like to get back in the swing of working on features
i know i complain about ridiculous hours on-set and never having any vegetarian dinner options...but i miss it.
i miss sneaking cigarettes out the set window with friendly grips and hiding all the red bull.
nobody i've talked to is working right now. i'm hoping it's just seasonal.
cause i'm kinda bored...and kinda broke.
