I was killing some time at a used books store today while waiting for some samples to be printed and I found a really nice illustrated edition of Brehms Tierleben (Brehm's Life of Animals). The cover had some water damage but the inside pages were intact so I got a really good deal and I'm so happy with this book. Have a look at some of my favourites of the sixty illustrations behind the cut.
The illustrator is Klaus Ensikat, a contemporary German illustrator. I posted some of his work before and while his style isn't for everyone I think it really works for animal illustrations. They're wonderfully quirky and expressive while at the same time retaining a level of detail that is pretty much gob smacking.
