BEEP BEEP

well we ended up not having pasta yesterday. Totally unexpected power failure in all of Waterloo, not even the power company knows what happened. I was in the office, working when the lights started to flicker. At first I thought, "wtf, I really need to stop sitting in front of a monitor so much ..." and then BAM! everything turns off. The great part is that our office is secured by an electronic door lock, so the first thing we checked was if we could still open it :) I mean, come on, when power failures happen, it's automatically go home time! Which I did.

Traffic was terrible, especially for pedestrians like me. Thank goodness for traffic marshals. At home we didn't know what to do. We started playing card games (I totally owned in blackball ...). Yesterday was when our transparent dependence on electricity really became apparent. I was nearly going insane because I couldn't use my computer (so maybe it's more of a computer dependence really than electricity), we all learned that cordless phones don't work in a blackout *eyes Pat*, we constantly had to remind ourselves not to open the fridge (I lapsed once, and everyone was on me ^^;;), turned on the lights in the washroom out of habit ... etc. The best part was when we were talking about the emergency lights in our room, and Ed was like "Well, at least now we know the lights won't be going off anytime soon" and then at that moment, the batteries cut out. Talk about perfect timing XD.

All in all, it was a good afternoon, we had fun playing card games, there were some hilarious moments, and then we all went off to Kitchener Swiss Chalet and acted like loud drunk people. Those butter sachets they give for dinner rolls explode really easily, I must say. Vicky is a scary driver.

The only bad part was the constant beeping of the alarm system in the entrance. SO happpy that power was restored when we came back. It would have been unbearable otherwise ... BEEEP BEEEP BEEEEEP BEEEEP BEEEEEP BEEEP BEEEP for 4 hours. I bet that was part of the reason why we were all acting just a little bit crazy then.
