My sides are red and welted and swollen and tender to touch, and I did it to myself.
And it was the best fun I've had in a long time.
For my birthday, Amber made me a hula hoop. A real one, not those chintzy things they sell in Family Dollar. It's heavy, it's huge, and it's way easier to use than I thought it would be! I've been hooping since about midnight, and I can now keep the hoop around my waist for as long as I damn well please, I can spin in a circle, and I can hoop on my knees (though I can't get up while hooping, or down for that matter). I'm sweaty and gross and hyper, but I have to take a break 'cause my ribs hurt so much I can't breathe deeply. I also have a blister on my right big toe from rocking back and forth on the carpet.
I always pick painful hobbies. Tattoos, piercings, yoga, hoop dancing... I don't do this on purpose, I promise. It's just my sense of aesthetics.
So now, a brief recap of birthday events.
While I was still working on stuff for the party, Chris came home from work early to help me out and he bought me one of those little keychains that holds pictures digitally and you can show them off to all your friends and be all, "Look how cute I am and look at my sexy photo album, because what I really need to show you is pictures of me and you hanging out, even though it's me and you hanging out right now." Because I LOVE stuff like that. :) It's only got ten pictures on it right now, but that's just because I'm too lazy to go through all my Facebook and all my friend's Facebooks and pick out every nice picture of my friends and me.
There was the party. Jess, Zach, Vince, Amber, Jules, and Nina came, and it was best fun. Everyone brought too much delicious food, Amber got me the hoop, like I said, Jess brought bubbles (which I spent half of today annoying Chris with while he worked on the car, thanks Jess :D), Zack bought me the newest Gogol Bordello album (they are hilarious, and when I begin hooping again, that's what I'll be listening to), and it was a great party. Amber belly danced for us, which you can watch
here and
here. There's two different angles for the same dance, and I recommend watching both, just for the effect. And there were sing-alongs and talks about theoretical physics and it was the greatest party ever, even if we didn't end up at Steak n' Shake at two AM.
The next day (my actual birthday) I made the rounds to my family. First we went to my Gramma Beall's, who is an awesome lady. She got me a giant set of make-up and a jacket and a little doohickey for organizing stuff and some other little things, and we ate ice cream and pistachio chips. Then we went and saw my dad, who is almost done completely rebuilding this old Chevy truck, and when it's done, there will be pictures, because my dad is a damn artist with sandpaper and a welding torch and a paint can. He bought me those nifty Bose headphones because god did I need a new pair of headphones and I finally have a pair that actually sound good! I can turn them up to one and hear everything in a song with such clarity. I was listening to Blaqk Audio as quietly as I could have it and it felt like I was at a club and I wanted to dance. :) And then we went to my mother, who kept us for FIVE HOURS, but that's okay, because she bought me trashy vampire smut literature and nice undies and Guitar Hero for the DS (which I will talk about later). And also she bought me veggie burgers and ice cream cake and we sang along to My Chemical Romance and I finally convinced her that Early Sunsets over Monroeville is, in fact, about zombies. And she ranted about how profound Gerard Way is, and I talked about how chubby he is. XD And finally she set us free.
And then...we were home...and...that was it. And today Chris took me to an early dinner at the Cheesecake Factory (which was more like breakfast because I slept in until one) and I got that Miso Salmon thing again.
And that was my birthday.
And now I'm twenty, and I finally got my own hula hoop and a litre of bubbles.
