FF RPG

So guys, I'm scoping out a new FF RPG that's still opening. It's a crossover from all the FFs, set in FFIX land - the premise is that other characters are being "dragged" there, but to me it seems that the idea is that the Iifa Tree's soul recyclying, Terra-Gaia merging functions have been reactivated and are ripping cities and souls from their original settings, which... actually makes sense, for a crossover RPG.

My initial idea was to play Aeris, because she is a character I love and have a pretty thorough understanding of... but she's being applied for by two other people, so I'd be in competition. I can go ahead with applying for her, but I've got a list of alternates. I was wondering if I could solicit your thoughts on who I should go with and who I should rule out?

Rydia
Pros: Summoner/Black mage is a bitchin' combo and I like green hair? She'd fit in FFIX and get along naturally with Garnet and Eiko. She's a brave little brat in addition to being a sweetie pie.
Cons: Dunno if I'd play her grown-up or as a kid, and she's a bit of an enigma to me... She doesn't say much and she's pretty absent in the game, so I don't know how to respond to a lot of situations.

Edward
Pros: He is such a milksop and I love him. Bards are awesome. I think I can extrapolate on his personality more than on Rydia's.
Cons: I don't know how sustainable he is.

Cid
Pros: He is a short fat man with a monster mouth and a beard that is eating his face. Hilarious hijinks are always bound to ensue.
Cons: Again, sustainability.

Faris
Pros: Just the kind of character that allows me to shirk romantical play that I hate, and surely there's a niche for her in IX-land.
Cons: I don't remember V very well, and again, "crossdressing pirate" is not exactly something with tremendous depth..

Hojo
Pros: As with my other FFVII favourites, I feel comfortable with him in that I understand who he is and what makes him tick.
Cons: Scientists are very tedious to play, especially when they are uncermoniously thrown into new settings.

Agrias
Pros: As a woman paladin, there's a place for her in the Alexandria guard all lined up and ready to go.
Cons: She's very serious, to the point of being boring, and I'd be building on her a lot.

Ovelia
Pros: Again, a character I not only like but who I can understand in some measure. Ovelia gives a lot to work with - I know her past and childhood, I have seen the direction in which she's grown, and I would have a much more solid foundation than if I picked up other characters. I can also easily see the impact that moving to a new world would have on her.
Cons: She's very distressed and that may be hard to work with. While I know how she'd feel about being in a new world, it's hard to say what her place in it might be.

Lani
Pros: Native to FFIX, so requires less pondering than many of the others. Her attitude has repaired itself a little by the end of the game, but not so much that she is no longer a brash, crass bounty hunter, which happens to be the kind of character I think is pretty fun to play.
Cons: As a bit character, there's not much information I can get about her - also, I didn't actually like her in my playthroughs for some reason, so now I'm working from recall and just realizing I'd like to play her.

Quina
Pros: I love Quina. S/he is a simplistic character that's easy to grasp but also seems like fun to play.
Cons: Lots of people hate Quina, and it seems like what you could do with him/her is pretty limited. Also, the pronoun thing.

Cidolfas
Pros: What can I say, I like the crazies.
Cons: Again, the scientist thing. I'd have even less hold on what to do and where to go if I played him as opposed to Hojo.

Larsa
Pros: I really like this character, and there are some great fansites out there to help me better understand him and where he's coming from.
Cons: I'd be overreliant on said fansites and I have no idea if I'd do a good job with him.

Aeris
Pros: My favourite in FFVII, and as such, I've thought significantly about what she's like, what drives her, and how to avoid the traps and stereotypes that people fall into while playing her. I've been told I write her pretty well. I know exactly what her "challenge" is when she's ported to a new world, if not her "place" in that new world.
Cons: Crisis Core canon among the castmates is always a challenge, and someone else might fit in better with the rest of the central VII cast. I don't want to deal with romantic subplots, but other players may not like that. Also, two other people are vying for her.

My front-runners at the moment are Rydia, Ovelia, Hojo and Lani - And, of course, Aeris.
