http://i457.photobucket.com/albums/qq300/soomin0809/secret.jpg This secret is really pissing me off.
Let's take it point by point.
1) Why do psych majors always do this? Why? Okay, congratulations, you took a psych class! That doesn't mean you're actually right. I'll start considering your opinion when you figure out that your textbook is not the word of God and sometimes meeting all the criteria means absolutely nothing. I have an irrational hatred for psych majors because they always seem to be pulling this shit. I'm sure there are plenty of thoughtful people who are able to consider the macro level in psych, but it's a really popular major and so I guess most of the people are just there because they know how to read and are looking for information that will allow them to back up their superiority complex. Or jobs. But fuck that, I hate psych majors.
2) Even if I were to assume that the rest of the secret was accurate (it isn't; I'll get there in a minute), the Winchesters are straight. Straight. Yes, I am aware of the Kinsey Scale. I am aware that bisexuality exists. They're still straight. If you want to write fanfic in which they are not, that's no skin off my nose, but if we're going to be looking at "real world parallels" and what they realistically are and are not, they are not gay. They have expressed interest in women exclusively and seem perfectly comfortable in their sexuality. It is reasonable based on demonstrated evidence (and statistics, and creator's intent) to assume that they are heterosexual and unreasonable to assume otherwise.
3) They meet a couple of criteria, but truly, they'd probably meet more of the criteria for being mass murderers or disturbed assassins. They did have absent fathers, family catostrophe and a very difficult childhood, yes, but that on its own is not neary enough. First of all, Dean never tried to control or abuse Sam as a kid (from what we've seen and heard of their childhood), and has always been interested in protecting his kid brother. Dean certianly has some issues regarding his dad and his upbringing, but a superiority complex and a need to control and dominate do not seem to be among them. Supposing that we're talking about incest between consenting adults, the only criteria they meet is that they were drawn together after family turmoil (the disappearance of their dad and the loss of Sam's girlfriend). They still don't meet any criteria. I don't care whether or not you ship it, the fact of the matter is that they have a relatively normal relationship for brothers and the moments of closeness they have is not abnormal and does not border on incestuous. And no, I don't really feel like that's up for debate. It's fine and dandy if you want to ship it, but it's just plain not canon. They never demonstrate romantic feelings for eachother and all of their romantic and sexual interest is directed outward, to the various women who come and go through their lives.
If you honestly believe that "brothers who endure tragedy and spend a lot of time together" is enough to conclude that they're textbook examples of incestuous relationships, well... I don't even know what to say to you, other than that you're fucking ridiculous.
