SO. Someone added an alert to one of my stories on FF.N. As is habit, I went and checked out this person's profile. The profile is a lengthy list of specifications with awkwardly constructed sentences, and then this little gem:
After leaving a constructive crit review, I was accused of bashing a story.
First of all, I am a beta reader. I know what the hell to look for.
If I wanted to bash someones story it would be a lot nastier than the review I left.
I also understand that writing is for fun but have pity on peoples eyes. Some of the crap put up on this site is just pathetic. And it gets good reviews. What the hell?
When someone leaves a review telling you what was wrong and what to fix don't respond with "Your bashing my story".
And if you have a story listed as romance and with a certain pairing, include that pairing or change the pairing to match the story.
I made you as an author feel like crap? Good. Because someone needs to be harsh with all the teenage crap being written. You don't care how you story looks and if it makes sense? Then maybe you need to retake your high school English class and learn to write, with proper grammar, spelling and whatnot.
I am so sick and tired of nothing but crap being put on this site because its the easiest place to do it. So many authors don't care what their story looks like and state quite proudly in the A/N. If you don't care as an author, then you need to stop writing.
So... I've found your/you're errors, poor construction and bad grammar (see: apostrophes). The aggressive, judgemental, kneejerk tone and classlessness of sticking that in your profile rubbed me the wrong way. I was Not Impressed, so I floated a little note their way:
"A lot of the spelling and grammar on your profile is wrong and the whole thing is awkwardly constructed. You might want to change that, if you're going to be making points about how bad writing deserves to be called out."
Today, I recieved a PM from this person!
"Does it look I care about my grammar and the way it is constructed on a
profile page? Have I written any stories for you to go snooping around on my
profile page, no.
I'll write my profile how I want to. As I recall, I don't believe I sent you
a review to warrant you to bash my profile.
Yes, I beta read, but for plot holes and some grammar/spelling mistakes, I
have other people who fine tune the stories I'm beta reading. You have a
problem with my profile, get over it."
[Second message]
"And don't worry, I just removed myself from the alerts for your story. Way to
keep your readers!"
Then s/he went and added to his/her profile:

Well, I got this today in regards to my profile.

It's my profile. None of my spelling came up wrong. Yes I beta read, but for plot holes and some grammar/spelling mistakes that I have other betas look at and "fine tune". Go ahead Ghostwitch and keep sending PM's to people who put you on alert. Way to keep your readers. Maybe you need to change your name to Ghostbitch cause that is what you are.
