Hollywood's Five Saddest Attempts at Feminism
(Eowyn, River Tam, Padme Amidala, Catwoman and Elizabeth Swann, for the curious but lazy)
So what do you think of this list? Would you remove anyone? Would you want to include someone else? If you expanded the list to include video games, television, manga and anime, who would you include?
Personally, I don't think it's very fair to attribute Eowyn to Hollywood instead of to Tolkein. It's not like dropping her swords and marrying Faramir wasn't in the book. I'm very glad Padme and Elizabeth Swann are on the list, though. Can't speak on River Tam, but I doubt she belongs there because... I guess I just trust Joss Whedon.
There's also The Nine Most Racist Disney Characters. I do have to argue with Sebastian being racist (what) and I'd like to point out that the lighting is hugely different in the comparison shot from Aladdin to Jafar and he is not that white. That kind of annoys me because there's a plethora of really good and appalling examples of racism in Disney movies, so why to try to twist things when you have a perfectly good point to begin with?
