Ladies and stuff
Shoutout for The Unpopular Woman Love Post.I know some people in fandom would ask "why is this here, why do we need to love every single woman character?" To which I would answer, "We don't, but I think the point is less liking everyone on this list and more responding to backlash and trying collectively to counteract the fact that ( Read more... )

To be fair I think they're using a somewhat more liberal definition of unpopular. How stigmatized you feel for liking someone is really subjective, you know? Characters like Relena, Rinoa, Mai and Orihime are I think real obvious choices, they've been in the crosshairs a lot. However, characters like Laurie, Vanille and Suki, less so? Yes, they aren't wildly popular, and people have certainly taken issue with their characters or gone on record as disliking them, but I haven't really seen any vitriol directed at them.

I do get the distinct feeling that I'm an anomaly in the regard of adoring female characters over male ones with, at times, extreme prejudice

I said this once on my journal and the answer I got back was more or less "you are." Anamoly is pretty dependent on the company you keep but I'd say that's pretty true on LJ. Even so, there's a pocket of people like you! Do you read meganbmoore's journal? You should friend her for her love of women and vast, mindboggling media consumption.

I will watch things that have no female characters, or no prominent ones, but I'm almost always biased towards the ones that show up. Supernatural was an exception - they were all poorly written barely featured love interests and that is really not how I roll, but I quit that show when it got too stupid to sustain itself and the only character I ever liked was Dean.

I can't figure out what it is about the Morrigan romance that I find personally unpalatable. The individual elements rae all interesting - the fact that she stops sleeping with you out of guilt, and that despite what she says she does want to be cared for, and that she's the only party member who will be jealous of your rendezvous with Isabella and refuse to join in, and all of that other stuff. She's a liar and she's good at it and maybe she doesn't even know she is, and that's really interesting... So what is it that I don't like? I don't know, I can't really figure it out.

I would have liked to see a little more regret from the friends plotline, before you get to the end... She knows she's going to have to leave you, so why not? It would also be nice for her to have given her ring to me regardless, but what can you do.
