So what, Aerith isn't built like a man like Tifa is(besides her cow boobs) and sure Aerith can't knock someone out, she's too delicate. But Aerith has a stronger will, optimism, and hope for the good. She never gives up. She never calls people names(Like Tifa does), and despite her terrible life Aerith lives a happy, optimistic life. Aerith protects. She DIED for her friends and for the planet. What did Tifa ever do? She let Marlene get kidnapped. Let Denzel almost die by Shadow Creatures. The most Tifa's ever done is help Cloud understand he was born in Nibelheim. Tifa can't protect anyone, and she's never shown protecting anyone either.

Aerith died protecting the planet, Tifa did zilch.

As much as I think ship wars are dumb but fun to watch from a distance, and I bow down to the glory of subjective interpretation, (and I do, oh god I do) I realize I am planning to base my career on the spectacle-wearing, five-syllable-word-using version of 'em in academia. Because arguing about subjective things that you can't ever prove and don't matter are the bread and butter of of English criticism and I looooove it.

Also you have sold me on Tifa/Aeris even though I really could take or leave FFVII as a whole, because, obviously, WOMENZ.
