Been vaguely following TGS. Two things.

1) DMC5: ... What? I will accept this Dante on the condition that it is Dante-Dante's lovechild with Bayonetta, named for his father.

2) FFXIV: The trailer... God, I really wish this was the next offline game in the series. I doubt I'll be able to play it as-is but it looks so much more the FF I've been yearning for and I took an instant

haha I'm loving peoples reactions to DMC 5 so far. I briefly thought that it might be Sparda but that sounds kind of... dumb the more I think about it. I do like that he looks a bit lanky though.

As if I weren't cynical enough about farming the work out to another company, what they're saying about how they want to rebrand Dante is... Less than encouraging. I was never huge into DMC - I've only played the first, and a little bit of the third - But I think it's always a bad idea to rebrand really iconic characters and try to repackage them to make them more "young" and "street" (what is this, the 90s? Nothing says you're old like trying desperately to appeal to young people.)

Yeah outsourcing the game is a bit weird and risky (it's like Silent Hill all over again). I'm not the biggest fan of Dante so I wasn't too bothered about whether trailer guy was really THE Dante, but I didn't realise it was a reboot. A reboot for a series that's barely a decade old feels like a dumb move (I think the gameplay just needs some tweaking more than anything), but I suppose in gaming years that means old.

... I still think they should have stuck with the 'uglier' Dante from early DMC4 trailer personally.

I personally hope ever so much that this new "Dante" is some kind of demonic experiment that's being manipulated to THINK he's Dante, and in the game you will meet the real Dante who will tell this kid to stop wearing eye-liner and eat a damn sandwich. Then they team up and have fighty times and it's hopefully awesome.

I really, REALLY can't imagine it being any other reason than it NOT being Dante. It just... no. I want Dante to have fun. That guy doesn't look like he's having fun.

It looks like I'll have to go to Asuras Wrath for my slice of extremely stupid over the top action. I don't know if you're a fan of this kind of action-genre, but did you see that trailer? It's essentially Buddhist God of War, and looks gloriously dumb from the trailer.

I just went and had a look - not my cup of tea, but I can appreciate the appeal.
