"sai lei gor". A homeless man from Korea is making waves on the internet, topping search engine charts across Asia.
A picture of the man, who is nicknamed Duizhang or leader by Chinese netizens for his tall figure and foreboding looks, was first uploaded onto Nate by netizen LuLuTVXQ43Va and quickly climbed to the most viewed and upvoted page. In the photo, he shows impeccable fashion sense, wearing an overcoat casually thrown over a simple tee and jeans. His hair is pulled back into a loose ponytail, allowing full view of his penetrating gaze.
Since then, he has been often spotted around Incheon airport, sparking a frenzy over his good looks and great fashion sense. He has politely refused all media interviews, stating that he only wants a warm place to sleep.
Thanks to extensive media coverage, the story of Duizhang has spread to neighbouring China, and Zhang Yixing, 21, has stepped forward to identify the man as Kevin Wu.
"We were best friends back in high school," said Zhang in a wavering voice. "He wanted to be a star. Funny how the world works." Kevin, who is of Chinese descent, was revealed to be a trainee at the idol churning factory, SM entertainment, before he disappeared after a trip home to Hongkong.
The revealing of Kevin's identity only fueled netizen's obsession with the man, as fansites popped up one after another to worship this mysterious man with the mysterious past. One creative fansite, Where's Duizhang, modeled after the famous game, started tracking Duizhang's appearances on an interactive timeline.
However, Kevin shocked fans and netizens when he appeared at Incheon Airport dressed in what appeared to be his grandmother's curtains and an old tablecloth. Kris sauntered around the airport, tipping his 18th-century fedora at passerbys, who met his unique fashion sense with horror.
"He became too ambitious," said the janitor of the airport, shaking his head sadly. "The fame has gotten to his head."
His statement was met with great fury from Duizhang's self-acclaimed number one fan. "Whatever!" Oh Sehun, 19, said. "He's still the hottest in my heart." With that, he stalks away in his oversized overcoat, not unlike the one first seen on Duizhang, to snap more pictures of Duizhang.
