Today Mark's set himself up on the stairs in the entrance hall, watching the mansion do its Sorcerer's Apprentice holiday routine and scribbling on a notepad.
He's seen the way the building molds itself around its inhabitants, the way rooms quietly shift and change, but that happens subtly, between one moment and the next. Today's event is far more ostentatious and, more importantly, observable.
So far, though, he's only discovered that if he stands in one place too long, the mansion decides he's a fixture to be decorated. From time to time he has to pause in his note-taking to brush tinsel from his shoulders or prevent a garland from snaking around his legs.
