Tonight I went to see Natalie Cole live. It was not really on purpose. A theatre manager I work for sometimes offered me free tickets at the last minute and I knew my mom would love it, so... Anyway, her voice is amazing, but the show was pretty boring. Most of it was "easy listening" and Natalie makes it look so easy that it's like she's not even trying, which translates into "meh". Her best songs were at the end, when her ear monitors went out and she was freaking a little. It added some excitement to the proceedings. Also, she looks unbelievably good for 57 years old.
It was kind of weird being in the house for the show, because I've never been to that theatre when I wasn't working. It always makes me nervous when I'm not backstage, like "Something could be going wrong! They might need me!" I can never relax seeing a show at a venue where I've worked. This is because I'm a bit of a workaholic, which, at least I know that about myself.
I'm going to see Cesaria Evora in concert this Tuesday, so hopefully that will be a much better experience. I've always wanted to see her live and I can't wait.
Things I've unpacked that are awesome:
-All the episodes of Due South that I taped on VHS (What's that?)
-My costume history books. I could start my own library.
-My replica Moulin Rouge Diamond Corset that I made. The tails and the lapels got a bit crushed, and the straps are fraying, but everything else still looks okay. Even the hat survived 3 years in storage. I want to put it on right now, drink the absinthe in my cupboard and pretend I'm Satine. TMI? But it's way past my bedtime. Maybe tomorrow? That's what Sundays are for, right?
-My foot spa. Just in time for summer.
Things I've unpacked that make me cringe:
-Red Dwarf novels. Seriously. I own three of them. How did that happen?
-The piano music for The Little Mermaid soundtrack. Obviously, this is a throwback from my piano playing childhood years. I don't even own a piano anymore, but I bet I could still play "Kiss The Girl". Hack-ishly.
-Christopher Pike books. Why did I pack those? Did I think I would read them again someday?
-Some clothes I will never admit to buying. They must have been gifts. Yes. That's it.
I feel like a lot of the cringe-worthy things made it past the packing filter because I was in such a hurry at the time. I didn't have a ton of notice before I had to give up my land legs and I think it just got to the point where I was throwing random crap in boxes. Hence, the educational book on Eagles and Hawks currently stacked on my bedroom floor.
And because this is funny (from SNL):
