Adolf Hitler was born in Austria, and came to Germany promising the German citizens a better life, a sterile life. Hitler created the Nazi party, who went through and tried to “sterilize the world.” He created concentration camps, work camps, started one of the largest world wars, and split a major city, Berlin, into two. One side of the city was for those who were believed to “contaminate” the world; the other side was for whose people who were thought to be already sterile. Adolf Hitler did all these things, and more, between the years of 1939 and 1945.
Adolf Hitler did all these things because he did not understand. He did not understand the difference between religion, nationality, or cultures. He believed segregation was a good thing, and there, he was wrong. In spite of someone’s race, religion, nationality, or culture, they are all still people, just like you and me. Adolf Hitler did not understand that failing to cooperate was not a reason to die. He did not understand that it is not okay to try to wipe out an entire race, nor that it would never work. Adolf Hitler turned out to be quite an arrogant and ignorant man.
I strongly believe that through the understanding of different cultures, customs, religions, and races, that as a world we can come together and begin to achieve the peace that everyone claims to want, without peace, everyone will continue to fight, swearing revenge on every country that is even the smallest threat.
Hitler was wrong to believe that one man could conrtol the entire world, and since the end of the second world war, many countries have become allies once again, or for the first time. The European Union (EU) was created after the second world war, and currently has a population of 450 million. It is the world’s biggest trader and generates one quarter of the global wealth. In spite of the fact that the euro comes only second to the US dollar, the EU did not set out to become a world power. The first, and most important, concern of the EU is to bring together the nations and people of Europe. Shortly after the Eu began to expand, and took on more and more responsibilities, it also started to define its relationship with the rest of the world. The European Union has recently come up with a new challenge: to spread peace and security beyond its borders. So as you can see, there are countries that are working together to create the peace that everyone wants. Unfortunately for Adolf Hitler, many countries are coming together creating that peace, the welcomed feeling of home.
American Field Service (AFS), was created after the end of the second world war. With its exchange of students, from the 14 countries where it opperates, it has helped the young people of today to understand the differences between cultures, customs, and religions. It teaches the younger generations that just because someone is different than you, that it is okay, and that we can work through our differences to create a peace; a peace through understanding.
As you can see, the only true way to achieve peace, is though some form of understanding; whether it is understanding about someone’s religion, customs, cultures, or race. Looking at the proof from the EU that we can start to achieve the peace, although the people must really want it, I believe that as a world we can finally come together and work out all the problems, if only we try to understand.
