RUSSIA AND THE FORMER SOVIET REPUBLICS
A new interdisciplinary scientific discipline, cognitology, was developed by B. Velychkovsky in the early 1980s.
V. Pushkin analyzed basic cybernetics concepts in relation to the psychology of thought processes. He also considered the self-regulatory process of acquiring knowledge and developed a model of dynamic systems control and analytic thought geometry. Much work was done on operational thinking, and in the early 1970s V. Pushkin successfully collaborated with experts in cybernetics on thought processes and automata. O. Tihomirov and his colleagues studied artificial intelligence in relation to the psychology of thinking processes, emotion, motivation, and goals in relation to human cognitive activity. A. Brushlinsky studied the theoretical basis for artificial intelligence. V Bondarovskaya applied psychological processes to computer issues. New approaches to understanding the mechanisms of creativity were proposed by Ia. Ponomarev and D. Bogiavlenskaya (who developed a diagnostic method for assessing creativity).
