"The Stuff I Find At Work On YOU TUBE" Dept.:
Cass Elliot and Julie Andrews sing "Make Your Own Kind Of Music" as part of a medley of Cass' songs on THE JULIE ANDREWS HOUR (circa 1971).
This song is especially significant for me because I discovered Cass through, of all things, the Puf'n'stuff movie, when I was very young (you can see a snippet of Cass singing
"Dif'rent" that I uploaded to my own YOU TUBE membership some time ago here). "MYOKM" is kind of the pop single equivalent of the same song and both were written by Charles Fox (the guy who I like to call the "Sound of the 70's " seeing as he wrote not only "KILLING ME SOFTLY WITH HIS SONG", the themes for TV shows such as THE LOVE BOAT, CHARLIE'S ANGELS, HAPPY DAYS,LOVE AMERICAN STYLE, LAVERNE AND SHIRLEY, but music for all of the Sid & Marty Krofft shows, and before that, the music to BARBARELLA and, a personal favourite, GREEN SLIME - yes, all the SAME GUY).
For those of you under the age of 305: kids, songs like "Killing Me Softly With His Song", "Seasons In The Sun" and "Make Your Own Kind Of Music" are what passed for EMO when we were young'uns. This is why Punk Rock happened, kids. Yes - we really ARE *that* different from all of you.
And for those of you over the age of 30: Can you imagine how painfully, simply, incredibly, perfectly, beautiful a duet between Cass Elliot and Karen Carpenter would have been? World Peace - right there.
And Yes - Match Game results soon, folks.
