Listening to the Alfredo Kraus - Edita Gruberova recording of Lucia di Lammermoor.
Her mad scene is absolutely fantastic, though the super top is a little effortless at the end - I can't blame her.
She does not always roll "r" Which is funny, but it does not impede her flexible, ringing and at times glorious sound.
Just wanted to share.
This is the Nicola Rescigno recording with the Royal Philharmonic.
Also Bruson sounds like a super boss! His diction is incredible.
Kraus sounds like Kraus... a little labored but fabulous!
http://youtu.be/NFH0wLG77m4?t=31m6s Listening to this recording reminds me, for some outrageously bizarre reason, of the 1958 Haitink recording of Magic Flute with Fritz Wunderlich, Maria van Dongan, and Juliane Farkas. Farkas kind of bites it on this one, Queen of the Night being a supremely challenging if not virtuosic role.
