Here! [Background]
Click! [Personality] Maka is summed up in a few words by Stein early in the series; he says that, according to her soul, she is "a serious person who tries hard." This does cover a lot of the major facets of her personality, because it's easy to see how serious she really is about school, about collecting souls, and about many other aspects of her life. Soul doesn't tease Maka and call her a bookworm without reason-- she studies very hard, and very often, and her efforts pay off when she proves herself at the top of her class. Maka enjoys books and reading, simultaneously using a book to assist in a Maka Chop when the need arises. She also states later in the series that she likes to write poetry when she is feeling down.
Though she is level-headed in some respects, she also lets her emotions, and her temper, get a hold of her in various situations. She's quick to resort to violence if Soul teases her, or if Blair gets a little too comfortable with him. She also doesn't hesitate to insult or turn from her father when he attempts to reach out to her, still harboring feelings against him after his divorce with her mother (though Maka still does care for Spirit, deep down.) On a larger scale, she can act recklessly in fights if provoked, or if things don't seem to be going their way. If a plan of the group's goes awry, and they start to lose the fight, she seems to panic a bit and loses control. When things go wrong, Maka can become easily discouraged. She typically has confidence in herself, but knows that she isn't as powerful as Kid or Black Star, and if her abilities are called into question or do not prove strong enough, she loses faith in herself quickly. On the flip side of this, she shows a certain level of bravery and determination when going into a fight, not backing down no matter what the strength of their enemy. She has a kind of drive that pushes her onward, taking all measures to try and accomplish their mission.
Maka is very bright, not only in intelligence, but in personality. She can seem bossy at times, and has a level of stubbornness that gets her into arguments with her friends. However, she does come to realize her mistakes, and typically apologizes and tries to make up for whatever's happened. She's shown to care very much for others, especially Soul. In many situations, she refuses to take action that puts Soul in danger, and this sometimes (ironically) winds up hurting him in the end. She is very protective of her weapon, and if he gets injured trying to protect her, she becomes extremely concerned, and usually blames herself for it. She trusts Soul, not only as a weapon, but as a close friend, and reacts very strongly in the first prologue when she believes Soul to have abandoned her for Blair. They have a very close relationship, relying on each other for support, and making a very "cool" team. In the end, she's really just a normal teenage girl, enjoying her time at school, and with her friends, and working hard to reach the goals she sets for herself.
[Specialties/Abilities] Though not as physically fit as someone like Black Star, Maka has a respectable physical strength, herself. She is shown throughout the series to have good stamina and agility, shown near the beginning of the series when fighting against Sid, and she successfully dodges his attacks and counters in a small space. She also has Soul Perception, which allows her to 'perceive' the souls of others. Though not as powerful as she leads Soul to believe when they first meet Stein, she has a strong sense of this ability, and is one of the first to notice the presence of witches when they appear.
She also has something called an Anti-Demon Wavelength (sometimes called Anti-Magic Wavelength,) which makes her able to bring back those on the depths of madness. By Resonating with those who are losing their sanity, she can attempt to bring them back. Maka's Black Blood is inadvertently given to her by Soul, though she is able to keep from having a condition like Soul's due to the Anti-Demon Wavelength. Coupled together, she uses these abilities to do things like try to understand Crona's soul.
[Affection] She's a friendly kid, and probably wouldn't mind a hug or anything like that. If you're moving beyond that realm into something more serious, then watch out. She'll either get really embarrassed or Maka Chop you.
[Fighting] Maka's definitely a fighter, and a pretty good one. She'd rather work things out, but if it comes down to it, she won't hesitate to stick up for herself or for others.
