An update on my "holiday mood" checklist:
I've bought eggnog...and the eggnog coma isn't far off.
The rest is yet to be accomplished. In fact, I've had to forget about "window shopping in Chicago" because I'm no longer going to Chi-town this Wednesday. Circumstances arose, and I just cannot ignore them. It's a bummer, but I'm not completely crushed to miss Roméo et Juliette. (Salome would have been a different story...mit vielen Tränen.) Besides, if it's this friggin' cold in St. Louis nearly a month before the official start of winter, I don't even WANT to know how cold Chicago could be next week.
Anyone that complains that it never snows in St. Louis can just shut their yapper this year. This winter storm really had people edgy and paranoid. So much so, that my new temp job* let out all of its employees a couple hours early. How's that for a first day...
*By the way, I am re-employed thanks to the good people at Stivers and Impact Directories. It's a pure data-entry job, and I could get used to it.
Since I got out of work at 3pm today, I decided to go to the hoity-toity mall (aka. Plaza Frontenac) for a late afternoon movie to escape the snow. Running with Scissors was quite good, and I recommend it most heartily. I usually don't like Annette Bening (with the exception of American Beauty) but I will go out on a limb and say she deserves a Best Actress oscar nod for this film. So does Jill Clayburgh, for supporting actress. Brian Cox and Joseph Fiennes were also great. Well worth an escape from an icy, soggy afternoon. (It would have been even better had I remembered that Frontenac has underground parking...so much ice-scraping and snow-sweeping could have been avoided!!!)
