Home, well isn't it a nice place to be. All we want to do when we're home is leave and all we want to do when we're away is go back home. This leads me into my story of travel and long, long, delays of DOOM!!
It all began on a brisk winter day in the beautiful Paradise Pier Hotel in Disneyland. We arose at 425am so we could check out and meet our shuttle by 5am. We boarded our shuttle to John Wayne Airport and off we went. A few more passengers later we made it to the airport at 545am. John Wayne is not a 24 hour airport so we, along with everyone else that needed to fly that morning got there around opening time. After 45 minutes of check in and security it was time to wait for our 715am flight. I checked to see if the 645am flight (direct to Seattle) was full and it was so we could not get on that one.
At 645am we began to board our plane. The plane was only half full so I thought this was our lucky day. We were all ready to go by 7am but we had to get clearance from Oakland (our 30min lay over) before we could take off. We didn't take off until 725am (10 min. late) We flew to oakland but instead of landing we began flying in a holding pattern because a sudden fog bank rolled in and our radio beacon transmitter reader thing wasn't working properly. This lasted a little while and then the decision was made to fly to Reno, NV instead of landing at Oakland. 40min flight time there and we land. They don't let us off of the plane cause we are just getting fuel and waiting for clearance again from Oakland. 20min later we take off again. 40 min flight back and we land. (1hour and 45 behind at this point) We ask if we can get off the plane but they say we have to stay cause they want to clean the plane and then load and take off. Well during the cleaning we are told that there is a "mechanical problem" and it needs to be fixed before we can fly again. We got off the plane and found some food. 20min turned in to 2 hours so they decided to give us food vouchers, we already ate at this point. (the vouchers were for a whopping $6.00) Time rolls on and many games of hearts later, we are told that the part needed has to come from San Fransisco. Not very happy at this point, considering Two other flights have left too Seattle already.
The time to board arrives at 330pm (4hours past when we were supposed to be home). We fly home just fine and land just before 6pm. We were supposed to be home at 1130am. 6 and a half hours after we were supposed to be home.
The moral of this story is never fly through Oakland(or San Fran) if you can avoid it. Also I wouldn't fly Alaska until they fix their baggage people too.
