do people still use live journal? ... ?
i just got back from japan. well, i got back on monday morning, but it still feels like i just got back, even though my jet-lag seems to be lasting about as long as the trip did. !
when you land in japan at the airport, you walk down the hall with about a hundred people who are all silent. if you speak, your voice echoes over the crowd.... we got in trouble at customs for being to loud. an extremely polite woman asked us to quiet down, then apologized over and over for asking. :)
they have these heated toilet seats with all kinds of buttons to do all kinds of things to your bottom... and THEN they have these little squatter toilets that they use in most of the public bathrooms. literally like a skinny toilet in the floor that you squat over.
i was on an asian tour of japan, on a bus with a bunch of taiwanese people. it was not what i had expected, but a wonderful and fascinating cultural experience. the first full day we were at a resort completely dedicated to europe (apparently japan has a special treaty with the dutch, so they built a resort to honor them). it was weird experiencing europe in japan...but it was also kind of cool. ? the 2nd two full days we were on the bus. we had to wake up early, and get on the bus. then we'd be on the bus all day, stopping at different sites, taking pictures... we'd stop for lunch that was already prepared for us and set up on these long tables with each place setting consisting of all these tiny dishes full of bits of unrecognizable food. we'd eat and get back on the bus. we stayed at 3 different hotels and drove around most (i think) of the southern island of japan. we rode on a ferry at one point, but i'm pretty sure we ended up back on the same island. ?
taiwanese people are tons of fun. japanese people are bigger that i thought they would be, and not as fun although generally pretty polite. people drive on the left side of the road there, which makes you do this weird leaning thing when you're turning onto a street watching the road from the front seat of a bus. the cars are all smaller that i thought they would be. i ate a blowfish dinner. heated toilet seats are really nice. bathrooms without soap make me crazy. duty free shopping is way more fun than i thought it would be. i want to learn mandarin. i could still feel the movement from all of the transportation for about 3 days after we got back.
jet-lag from this trip is still messing with me.
