Beirut - The Flying Club Cup
I just recently made the discovery of how great Beirut is. I remember hearing a few songs a few years back and was more or less unaffected by it. It wasn't until I first, made time to listen to it and second, took this cd from my sister, that I realized how good it really is.
I love the fact that I know nothing about the style of music Zach Condon and Beirut play. From what I gather it has strong influence from Eastern European Gypsy music. The best part about Beirut is Zach's voice. He has a very unique vibrato that is really warm, breathy, intimate sound. The character of the songs are similar which creates a sense of unity among the album as a whole. The sense of space in the recording suggest that the album was recorded in a small room aiding to the overall sonic quality of the album.
I feel that this album, to me, may become one where no particular songs stand out as being better than others and I will look at this more as just a cohesive piece of music.
