The Store Name

Apr 07, 2008 12:38

Here's one update to the store post of doom. I've mostly been cutting names based on people not liking them, more than taking names people like. These seem to be the four that get the most positive feedback, and have little or no potential legal conflict ( Read more... )

I personally like Jupiter Games (because I do know the joke, but it's also generic), and Zenith Games (because words starting with Z are fun :) However from a weblisting or yellow pages standpoint you want to go higher up in the alphabet in case people don't get to "Z", you'd always be the last listing on the page...

I hadn't even thought of the alphabetical part. Thats a really good point.

What about Apex Games. Same meaning to Zenith, but higher in the alphabet

Last night when Harry suggested zenith I looked that up. I would love that name, it actually has a lot of personal meaning to me... but http://apexgames.com/lan/index.php

On the whole its ok, we're not going to appear in too many search engines as such. And this will just be the name for the store itself. We'll still be Bottomless Cards and Comics online largely due to laziness factor in regards to the paperwork needed to change our name 100% (and so we don't lose our ebay status).

The goal here is just a name that will bring in people looking for board games or poker chips or puzzles who happen to be next door at the Chinese buffet or Applebees.

Zenith Games would be my pick then :)

Is Bottomless Games just too obvious? It would certainly help anyone who tried to make the connection between your online and physical stores.

- Dave who can't believe he spends so much time thinking about someone else's store name. Doesn't he have a job of his own?

I think we honestly never thought of that. We certainly could use it. Though I was kind looking forward to not having to deal with the 1 in 4 people who ask why our games don't wear pants and then think they are clever. I also have to see how many letters is too many. One of the troubles with Bottomless Cards and Comics was that it was so long we couldn't fit it on anything (like t-shirts). That really was a problem. But then Bottomless Games is only a 3 letter difference from Jupiter and 4 letters off Zenith.

You could be Bottomless Gaming, and then your games could wear pants but the players couldn't.

Gamers without pants I think classifies as a crime against nature.

Indeed. And if you don't like bottomless per se, but still want to build your brand, you could use "abyss".
Abyss Games
Abyss Gaming
The Game Abyss
The Gaming Abyss

Abyss is also nice because it's not a word you hear everyday. And every store wants to be the pinnacle, very few strive for the infinite depths below. That catches people's attention for being counter to their expectations. It sounds vaguely Hellish enough that it could bring in your more hardcore gamers too.

-Dave

It's short too.

And it could be at the beginning of the alphabet.

One of those permutations appears to be some type of game, but my work filter won't let me see. They can't all be taken though.

It does fit every bit of criteria I'm looking for. My search found that there is a (groan) a "Dental Game" by Abyss Designs. And there is a free online game named Abyss. And there may be a website that makes crappy free games named Abyss Games.

Is it just me or does the Game Abyss sound like the place where old games go to die?
