I understand completely. Battlestar Galactica was too, too important to me when I was young. This is blasphemous, and there's no better analogy than mud and chocolate!

When I watched BG (look out, Crusty Old Fan time ;}) I was still young enough to be excited by the parallels between the tribes and the Zodiac signs. Especially that Cassiopeia was a Gemon, because she was so cool ;}

This is kinda like what Highlander 2 did to the Highlander mythos. It would have been fine as a different entity, it just doesn't work as what they're trying to make it.
