It's official, Johnny had the leg removed in part one of a 2 step process which will complete with a second operation Friday. So far it's below the knee, which is a good thing.
During his last operation, the consulting surgeons estimated that it would take another 18months and after that there would only be a 50% chance he could keep it. Even if at the end of 18months he got to keep it, it would never be 100%. (Preventing him from ever going back to work at his profession, and taking 18months to get to that point.) This way, he should be back to work in 2-4 months, and apparently (news to me) the new prosthetics are stronger than your limbs, so he should be able to return to all of his activities once everything heals.
