Presenter woman voiceover: "So language was a big step towards human perfection."
Yeah, because humans are the ultimate goal of evolution, aren't we. Evolution doesn't spin and mutate in all sorts of directions, does it, it just evolves in one line, and we're at the top of it.Yeah, that makes a lot of fucking sense.
What annoys me is that that idea perpetuated back in Darwin's day, because communication was largely by word of mouth, the public understanding of evolution placed humans at the top of it, which you could say is a natural arrogance of a species so that's understandable... the annoying thing is that since evolution's become much better understood, this ridiculous notion still slips in sometimes when people talk about it.
Plus, to the presenter woman, please don't be so arrogant about so-called 'perfection' of the human condition as if you speak on behalf of all of us, as if it's a fact, just like the science that you're failing to represent properly.
