This is really my first spring as a home owner...at least as a good homeowner.  We bought the house last February but didn't really move in until July and did a minimum of maintanence in the mean time.

Owning this little plot of land has it's good sides (yard for dog and herb garden) but there are downsides in unpleasant things I didn't have to confront previously (floods, bugs, etc).

This falls in the downsides.

Saffy was nosing something on the ground and I heard squawking so I check it out and a little baby bird, barely feathered, has fallen from somewhere above.  A fall from the tree would have been a long one and I"m pretty sure a wing was broken.

Awful as it is, I wish I had the courage to put the poor thing out of its misery...but I don't.  All I could do was move it to a safe place where nature would take her course instead of Saffy.  If it is still struggling when Rich gets home at midnight, maybe he has more courage than I.  For now, it is tucked safely on a bed of wood chips in a flower pot behind the garage.  If I had thought it was healthy enough to be rescued by mom, I'd have tried to leave it there but keeping Saffy out of the yard is near impossible.

Is it morbid that I took a picture of the bird?  Not sure why I was compelled to do so, but I was.
