boybands?
I'm remembering why I love (and hate) boybands so much...
I'll admit it. I was a total Backstreet Boys girl (and Spice Girls... but I won't touch that). I hated *NSYNC - although, I had to admit they were good dancers and had catchy songs - and loyally stood by BSB and all their music. My favourite? AJ, of course. XD
But it wasn't simply because they were hot, or anything. There are two main reasons why I love(d) boybands: the catchy, fun songs, and their voices. I'm a sucker for beautiful voices, and you are pretty much guarenteed to find them in boybands.
That was actually why I preferred BSB over *NSYNC - I thought their voices were a lot better, and JC's and Justin's voices really annoyed me.
Moving to the present.
I once swore that I would never, never listen to boybands again, muchless Korean boybands. Shocking, no? That promise started to break years ago, actually, when a Korean girl at CTY introduced me to Shinhwa. (Um... 3rd album, I believe). I actually bought that CD, and it's sitting somewhere in my room... As catchy as some of the songs were, I lost interest and forgot about them.
Until recently. But it wasn't actually Shinhwa I got into. Oh no, much much worse: HOT (now disbanded).
And it wasn't because they were hot or anything (frankly, I even know what they looked like). Again, with the voices. Kangta has a gorgeous, gorgeous voice, and I love it. Like, obsessively love it. Yes, it's frightening.
He has a solo career now, and I've been hunting his solo stuff down, but I also like a lot of his stuff from HOT.
(Which is why I now have 5 of their albums on my harddrive. Sad. Yes.)
So, this is why I love boybands. They're fun, catchy, and have gorgeous voices to boot. (Although, HOT is a bit of an exception in the last aspect... but I'm not going to get into that)
Why I hate them?
Because of all the songs (in this case, 5 albums) they've released, I only like a handful. And usually this handful are, obviously, the singles that are released. The rest? Pretty much suck. A lot (
IMO, at least). They're generic dance songs, or trite "OMG I LOVE YOU DON'T LEAVE ME" love songs.
Oh, and they lipsync. Sooo obviously lipsync. But that's a whole other rant. Like, huge-ass rant, that I'm going to get into now.
Anyways... I think I'm going to look into Dong Bang Shin Ki (DBSK, TVXQ, however you want to spell it) (thearchpoet, how would you pronounce/romanize those 4 characters? And, um, what do they mean? ^^;;), because they also have v. pretty voices. Nothing as exceptional as Kangta (yet), but... we'll see. Of course, it helps that they sound beautiful acapella. =)
Note: You know you're getting old when... these new boybands that come up (like DBSK)? They're younger than you.
(In DBSK, one of the members is a year younger than me, one is my age, and the other three are about a year older).
