I've been having a lot of "deep thoughts" about slash and whatnot lately, lol.  Thought I would share them with y'all.  Some more serious than others.  I will cut it in case no one cares, lol.

First of all, somewhat related, you know how we got that new ipod?  Well I told my mom we could share it, obvs, so I went about filling it stuff from my itunes.  I was going to pick and choose, pretty much leaving out all my embarrassing playlists even though she doesn't know what the word "slash" means.  Some examples of these playlists: Jedi Slash, Joker/Harley, HP ships, Metal Slash (mostly metal songs from Toki/Skwis playlists I've downloaded), Metal Slash 2 (my own mix of songs that are not metal at all, but that remind me of T/S, lol)...  Do you get how this is embarrassing??  And before I could figure out how to pick which playlists get transferred to the ipod, it goes ahead and transfers everything in my library, playlists and all.  XDD

So I told my mom that when she takes the ipod, to just go to "artists" because I have some stupid-named playlists that she won't get.  And she goes "Oh, I would never judge you!  I don't care!"  Which is pretty cool of her, but makes me very glad she doesn't get fandom lingo, lol.  IF ONLY SHE KNEW.  XDD

Anywho, on the real stuff.  I was talking to the boy about fandom the other day for some reason.  He's not really into the internet fandom scene that much, he pretty much just uses the imdb message boards to talk to people about LOST and Heroes, and I told him that didn't count.  So I was explaining to him the oddly high amount of slashers in the Metalocalypse fandom.  "Um...they're cartoons!" he said, flabbergasted.  I then went on to explain the slashing tendencies of my various fandoms.  I will elaborate below.

Harry Potter:  The slash scene is pretty much Harry/every male in Hogwarts, lol.  I happen to prefer Harry/Cedric in that respect.  There's a lot of slashing going on with the older generation of characters, Remus/Sirius for example.  *fans self*  The HP slashers are pretty active, but there's a lot of het smut in the fandom too.  It's a nice dynamic between the two, I think.  And there's a bajillion different pairings because there's so many characters.  There's a bit more femmeslash here than in other fandoms, also a lot more kinks, like incest and non-con.

Star Wars:  There's a lot of slashers in the SW fandom.  I've never really delved into the original trilogy as far as fics go, I stick with the prequels.  And the subtext between the Jedi is too obvious for them to not be slashed.  XDD  Sadly, this fandom has died down in activity since the movies finished up.  :(

Good Omens: A surprisingly big fandom for just one book!  And really, I don't think I've ever read a GO fic that didn't slash Crowley and Aziraphale!  That's aiight with me though, cuz it's hot.

Heroes: The canon het ships on this show are so painful to watch that the slash was pretty much inevitable.  Not to mention that the male characters all have major subtext.  We barely have to even try anymore, the ships write themselves!  Also a lot of incest here, usually involving Peter/Nathan, or Peter/Claire.  A lot of darker slash too, with Sylar and just about everyone.  :D

Scrubs:  Not much at all for this show, maybe because it's a comedy.  There are some JD/Cox shippers out there, but it's not really a thing for this fandom.  Thank god.  XDD

LOST:  The fans of this show are too busy trying to figure out what the hell is going on to slash anyone, lol.  I've seen some Jack/Sawyer around, but that's really the only slash ship I know of.  The male cast is just entirely too good looking for it to not exist at all, but it's not a big thing.

Flight of the Conchords: Ok, Bret/Jemaine does exist out there.  I've read some.  It's weird.  XDD  Not really something I like to think about.  XD

Batman: The Batman slash kind of exploded with the Nolan movies.  I've seem Batman/Scarecrow, Crane/Ducard, Batman/Joker, Batman/Two-Face (and also Bruce/Harvey, which is different I guess), Joker/Two-Face...it is everywhere.  I think if they had casted less good looking men this might not have happened.  We just can't help ourselves here.

Lord of the Rings:  Once the movies hit, there's plenty of LOTR slash.  The hobbits all with each other, Aragorn/Legolas (*swoon*), other various elves being kinky, Aragorn/Boromir, sometimes even Legolas/Gimli (*gag*).  There's just barely any female characters, so the slash wrote itself.  :P

Metalocalypse:   Um...I think there is more slash here than any other fandom I've seen.  At least in the others there's still a good amount of het smut out there.  In Metalocalypse there is...nothing.  It's all gay.  XDD  And people seem to take their ships very seriously.  There are so many different combinations of the characters, there's something for everyone.  Toki/Skwis seems to be the most popular, by far (the first time I saw the show I thought "I betcha someone has slashed those two..."), but they have enough subtext on their own that it's easy, lol.  I'm a particular fan of Pickles/Charles...and I haven't decided who I like Nathan with.  Sometimes Pickles, sometimes Charles...no one ever gets Murderface.  XDD

ANYWAY.  I didn't mean for this to be a big thing, but I'm bored, lol.  :P  So the conversation with the boy led to wondering why girls like to slash so much (let's face it, the majority of slashers are female).  He said that it's probably because men don't need to write/draw the girls they like in movies/tv, because those girls usually will be shown at least partly naked.  Women usually bare all in movies (except the bajingo), and men just give us some shirtlessness and maybe a butt-shot if we're lucky.  XDD

So I told him that women think about sex as much as they accuse men of doing the same thing, but it's not as "accepted" for women to talk about it.  So we form these little fandom subcultures were we can write sex scenes, draw buttsex, squee about gay ships, etc, while being accepted by others who like the same things.  So I think that's cool.

Anywho, sorry for babbling, lol. I just like talking about sex fandom.  XDD  BTW, this all came about because I wrote shameless smut today, posted over at shireberries.  The boy likes to read my fics, but he thinks the smut is weird (pssh, whatevs), so I told him he might want to steer clear of this one.  At least it's het, this time.  I swear I will get him to read my Colbert/Stewart porn someday!  It's a good goal.  XDD
