Never Set You Free, PG-13, Sam/OMCs, Sam&Deanprimarycolors92August 8 2011, 01:49:39 UTC
It's easy to keep secrets from Dean. Sammy learns this when he is twelve years old and it is something he can never unlearn, wish as he might.
It is easy to keep secrets from Dean because Dean loves Sammy more than anything or anyone in the entire world, including Dean himself. Dean love Sam and Dad, but Dean does not love Dean.
Sam learns this the day after his first kiss, with Timothy Cooper behind the gym shed during third period. It is a great first kiss, as far as first kisses go, slow and sweet with just a hint of something more far, far along the road.
When they're done with the very good first kiss, Timothy Cooper wipes his mouth with the back of his hand, grabs Sammy's arm hard, and hisses, "Don't you dare tell anyone. Don't you ever dare."
So when Dean comes to pick Sammy up from school, and the first words out of Dean's mouth are what's wrong, sammy?, Sam does the only thing he can think to do.
He opens his mouth, and he hurts Dean. His words say, I don't want to talk to you anymore, and that would be okay, but what Dean hears is I don't love you,
and that is unforgivable.
But a lesson learned cannot be unlearned, and some secrets are better kept than set free, and there is a list of numbers in Sam's phone belonging to men Dean will never meet.
Sometimes these men call Sam and Sam disappears for a night of kissing and fucking and don't you dare leave marks.
And the next morning, when Dean grabs his arm and looks at him with wild, worried eyes and ask, where the hell were you last night, sammy?, Sam opens his mouth and lies.
