a really quick question

I'm working on a Harry Potter WIP that I started forever ago, and I have a random Brit-speak question for those of you across the pond. ;) Is the term "hush money" something that means the same no matter where you're from, or is there some kind of phrase that you would say instead? To be more specific, money paid to someone to keep them from talking about something. My googling was fruitless.

Or, alternatively, do you think this phrase is even something a wizard would say? Hmm.

I could just change the line, but agh. I can't think of another way to say it! At least I'm writing HP fic again! Seeing the movie for the 4th time today has striked the muse at last. (And yes, I plan on seeing it even more times...probably once a week until it's out of theaters lol.)

Thanks for the help! I actually love writing for British fandoms for these reasons, that I get to write in a "dialect" different from my own. I always try to make the dialogue sound as authentic as possible. I find that fun!

Okay, back to ficcing. The Weasleys beckon. :DD

weasleys, harry potter, watch for biting plotbunnies, writing woes, ficcing
