So, the way it works here is that I have to sit in this lab and wait for the "product" that I am "testing" to finish (feel free to replace the quoted words with words of your choice...).
Strange that people seem to think this normal - both writing thoughts onto screen-space and then sending them to a public-viewable web-site, and the whole living on the outskirts of Chicago thing... I've been here for well over a month now, and it's pretty weird compared to home, always new things that you notice. There is the fact that most of the inhabitants seem to be spoilt for 2 things: fuel and food. Everything else is variable, but the portions are big, and the transport (barring taxis) is cheap. Both are potentially hazardous to my health - given that I like cycling, and I was brought up to eat everything that was put in front of me. I can either blame the treehuggers/fit-fans for my being squashed beneath a Dodge Ram on my ickle mountain-bike, or my parents for my packing it in with morbid obesity.
It's been interesting so far, as long as I can get access to transport; cycling has limited appeal beyond 5 miles, and most amenities are hitting that limit or beyond - suburban sprawl that Northern Chicagoland is... I'm in an area called Prospect Heights, with nice surroundings - it's probably an ideal place to bring kids up, if you want to make sure that they can't get anywhere on foot without something large and heavy roaring down the road at them ;)
Otherwise, I have purchased an American laptop (so different, yet so familiar...) and a little thing called a Tapwave Zodiac which is such an attractive piece of electronic gadgetry that I wish it could have little anodised aluminium babies - in a good, solid Zodiac household, of course...
Tapwave Zodiac Apparently I've been doing social things, and seeing sights, and of course entertaining my wonderful girlfriend. Lets get the irritable whining out of the way first though, k? :p I only really have one of these accounts so I can check all my friends LJs without having to go to loads of URLs ;)
