Today I had an adventure

hello darlings.
Today I had an adventure.
my big spiffy adventure was 2 hours away in Heidelberg and yet another castle. In the snow. yay snow. (jen, what's the current word count?)

here are some lurvely piccies. some from yesterday as well when I went to this champagne museum place thing.

okay. here we go then.

This is Kupferberg. A place that used to produce Sekt, which is basically German champagne cos they're not actually allowed to call it champagne unless it comes from france. stupid french people. little gardeny courtyard thing out the front was really quite pretty in the snow. Prettiness lessened slightly when I slipped over. then Matthias threw snowballs at me and I fell over again and giggled. yay me.

this is the back end of the little museum. If I was to turn around, right behind me would be a lovely view of Mainz covered in snow. except there was a stupid wall there, so I didnt take a picture of it.

Inside the Museum were these boring exhibits of old wine bottles *yawn*, wine bottle lables, posters blah blah. This room was lovely though. the world fair or something in France in 1900, and this was the german room where they did wine tasting or something. the guys who own Kupferberg bought the 'room'... really just the things IN the room, and brought them back to Mainz. very pretty. all cast iron, supposed to look like grape vines.

another stupid german cup. these germans have very very weird taste in cups and glasses methinks. this one was part of the exhibit at the Kupferberg place, where they also had all these old champagne glasses. some of them were really really pretty, but not really worth taking pictures of. except this one, which I just thought was funny. :P retarded, but funny.

Okay, after we were finished in the museum we went down some staris to a cellar with heaps of huge big wooden wine barrels. not a good picture I'm afraid, the light wasnt good, and as we all know, my camera doesnt like it when the light is bad. bleh.

The biggest of the big boring barrels. holds 100 000 litres. that is a LOT of wine.

after that we went down MORE stairs into the deep cellars which are HUGE. lots and lots of tunnels.

litteraly hundreds of tunnels and MILLIONS of bottles. Most of them empty though cos the production moved elsewhere in 1973, so there hasnt been any more wine made there for ages. they still keep the bottles there so stupid tourists like me can see how they were stored.... and pity the poor bastards who had to stack them. again, not a very good photo, light was shite.

gives a new meaning to "100 bottles of beer on the wall" doesnt it?

Oh and this is a door. frightfully interesting I know. Not sure what possessed me to take a photo of it, but I did and here it is. woot.

and yeah, that was the end of the Kupferberg thing. we got free champ...AHEM... fizzy wine.

and today it snowed MORE.

so here is a snowy picture of our little teensy german backyard.

HEIDELBERG

We parked the car and then had to walk up a hill to get to the castle. Normally we could have driven up, but the snow was too slippery and the hill too steep for the car, so it was just easier to walk.

This is Heidelberg covered in snow from where we parked the car. snowed almost all day and was bloody freezing. that, and my camera batteries died halfway through so I had to get some more. oh. and I got purple legwarmers as well.

ahem. moving right along then.

when we got up to the castle we went to this exhibition on old pharmacies, like from the middle ages right through to the early 20th century. all this weird stuff on display, and they used the weirdest things as medicine. pills made from crushed human skull for eppilepsy for example. oh, or donkey hooves for toothaches. no photos were allowed so I didnt take any.

so instead here is a suit of armour in another exhibition of old mediaval stuff, where we were allowed to take pics. ...or at least I think we were... no one told me not to.

so this is my friend Bill.

rather dashing isnt he? and apparently that armour weighs more than I do, which is certainly something.

Bill's friend Bob in different armour. Bob was rather short. shorter than me (Emppu short methinks), but had spiffy armour.

The outside thing before we went into the castle.

one day this house shall be mine.

the pretty view from the castle wall. Not really a huge fortress castle with drawbridges and such, but a chateau for rich dukes and their court.

yet another view from the top. River Neckar somewhere down there.

inside the courtyard, one of the buildings. half destroyed by the french in the 1700s or something. they blowded the top half off. stupid french.

More stuff inside the couryard. was rather large as you can see. and covered in snow. bloody ice covered cobblestones are a bastard to walk on.

part of the courtyard yet again.

A hall inside the castle. was restorred in the 1870s or something, along with bits of the rest of the castle that the french blew up. Castle was never bombed during WW2 though.

and this is a wardrobe, and after that my camera died, so I dont have any more pictures of the inside of the castle I'M afraid. went on a tour with a whole bunch of americans, two couples from Australia (one from queensland who was wearing a NSW rugby jersey...weird) and a family is Finns (yay fins). oh and a couple that were Itallian. The guide spoke very good english, but also spoke French to Max (who speaks french cos his father is a froggie) and Itallian to the Itallian couple. had a very odd accent though. ahem, anywho.

Got more batteries in town.

another house I am determined to own.

and this is the lovely house I saw from the top of the castle. IT WILL BE MINE I TELL YOU!

alalala pretty houses. Heidelberg has a lot of them. also has a lot of Americans cos Heidelberg is some important place in the whole Nato thing. I dont remember, I kind of tuned out. lol.

and yes, I do beleive that is the end of my little adventure.

I had very cold feet. turns out that after walking around in ankle deep snow all day, that even my beloved docs are not as waterproof as I thought they were.
oh and Heidelberg has 2 gummi bear shops. these germans are obsessed with gummi bears. *sighs and shakes head*

well that would be the end my little darlings.
hope you're enjoying the sunshine.

Missing everyone lots and will be spewing if these post eats itself.
