You guys, you guys! A full two-thirds of the times I opened the oven today I remembered to avoid sticking my face directly into the initial volcanic blast of heat! Personal growth is already going strong here in 2016.

So, what did we do for New Year's Eve? I made shrimp and scallops with garlic butter while wearing a fabulous outfit, then we all worked a jigsaw puzzle map of Zelda to keep ourselves awake. We have limited family jigsaw puzzling experience and I was sort of impressed at the overall lack of conflict, given that we have wildly different frustration tolerances and puzzling strategies. We finished at 12:08am, just in time to enjoy the fireworks that our neighbors appeared to be shooting right into our freaking backyard.

Today I swept the house to clear out the energy of the old year, then burned sage and incense to bring in the fresh energy of the new year with protection and clarity. Hoss and I made pumpkin muffins, representing both kindness and a continued commitment to chocolate chips. I put away the Christmas decorations while Hoss wrote thank you notes. (Okay, he wrote one thank you note under duress. That part is the same as 2015 and every year prior). The Hubster cleaned the garage as though lit by demon fires from within, finally emerging victorious late in the day. In the evening I took a walk, wearing a different fabulous outfit, and then finished a scrapbook project that's been outstanding since last June. It all seems like a good start.

(But what exactly did I wear? Yesterday I wore a red, white, and black plaid flannel skater dress, purchased at a thrift store in Orange County, with leggings and ankle boots, and felt exceptionally femme for the grocery store. Today I wore a black and violet leopard print sweater dress with leggings, because why the heck not. Also we weren't planning to go anywhere where people outside my immediate family would see me. Hypothetically, if I were to pair these leggings with dresses for the next three days, I would already have exceeded my dresses-with-leggings quota for 2015. I'm practicing).
