Cooking experiment of the day: homemade Lara Bars (the Liar Bars from Nom Nom Paleo) made with Things I Had In The Cabinets, including a rather old box of dates scavenged from the office kitchen. Verdict: less sugary than commercial Lara Bars, which is a plus for my delicate flower metabolism, but the dates were too old and dried out to bind the rest of the ingredients, so I have made homemade energy birdseed rather than bars. Yes, I suppose I could have added ghee or coconut oil to help it stick together, but I had an unfortunate coconut oil experience* last week and we're currently taking a break from each other, so I think I'll just use a spoon.
*I took a big bite out of the top of a jar of raw coconut, not realizing that the top inch or so was solidified oil. The end result was that an hour later I threw up violently in a Panera full of older women ranting about how the immigrants are destroying Halloween, so that part of my day was sub par.
