How much of a hippie are you really?
So, I'm supposed to be working...Below is a list of vocab I came up with as part of my 67 project. Because I'm tired, hungry, and slightly out of it, I'm not really focused, so I was thinking about how many of these "hippie" expressions I use on a pretty much daily basis, and then I started wondering the same thing about you guys. People say Collinsites are a bunch of hippies. Does our vocab reflect that? If you want, comment or re-post in your own journal, highlighting the words you use regularly.
Hippie Vocab:
1) Bag: To Steal. Example: Who bagged my towel? Also: "What's your bag" meaning what's your problem or where are you coming from.
2) Bread: money
3) Bummed Out: depressed
4) Crash: Go to bed, go to sleep
5) Dig: understand. Example: Do you dig? Also: “I dig music” meaning “I enjoy music.”
6) A Drag: Someone or something that’s boring and un-enlightening.
7) Far out: Excellent, Cool
8) Flower Child: A Hippie
9) Freak Out: Temporary loss of control due to an unpleasant event
10) Fuzz: Police (see also: Heat, The Man)
11) Gone: Cool, groovy, neat, neato; said of a person, as in “He's a real gone cat.” Or you could say, “I'm gone over him” meaning wowed, infatuated, totally sold on.
12) Groovy: Nice, cool. Generally associated with hippies.
13) Hang-up: bother, negative aspect of one’s life.
14) Heat: police.
15) Heavy: Deep, cool, chaotic, sad, controversial
16) Hip: Very good, cool.
17) Hippie (also “hippy”): A member of the 1960s and early 70s youth counterculture movement. (obviously)
18) Human Be-in: Event in San Francisco’s Golden Gate Park on January 14, 1967, considered by many to be the moment when the ideals of the counterculture were established
19) The Man: Authority figure. Example: “Don’t let The Man get you down.”
20) Old Lady: Female significant other.
21) Pad: Someone’s house. Example: “It was raining, so we all went to Sam’s pad to hang out.”
22) Rap: Talk
23) Right On: I agree, I concur.
24) Scene: environment. Example: I left the party because the scene was getting too heavy.
25) Threads: Clothes.
Given how much this project has been owning my soul, 11 out of 25 is pretty low...
I have real things to post about, but that will be done in like, an hour when I get home.
