Unbeknownst to me a creature came to be.
Inside of me it flourished, feeding on your every word.
Yet even as I became fat with its weight I remained ignorant,
mistaking its gentle kicks for the grumblings of an empty stomach.
I was not aware of its presence until it was immanent, the kicks no longer gentle.
I ran to you so it could be born, though even then I knew its fate.
It was stillborn, unrequited, and I mourn it as it haunts me.
