But this whole Lekiwski thing and the comments made 17 years ago on that tape; well, the key words are 17 years ago. I think people are missing the major point this brings up. Look at how disgusted and offended and horrified people are over these comments. Back then, it was the norm. As horrible as that sounds. Look how much times have changed for the better where comments like that are not tolerated.
We don't condemn those from 400 years ago for beliefs and ideas they had, nor should we condemn someone whose views were the norm 17 years ago.
There is a major difference between Lekiwski and the cases of David Ahenekew and Larry Spencer. Their comments were made extremely recently. If Lekiwski's comments were made today, if that tape was from last year or so, then this would be an entirely different story. I fully accept his apology and hope that he has indeed changed in his views.
There's something you learn in history class: don't paste today's morals on to the past, it doesn't hold water.
Oh, and Mr. Wall. Don't quit your day job. Your fake accent kinda sucks. . . and your rapping, don't get me started.
