In-Character Information
Name: Neris, aka Fairy of the Sea
Game/Series: Panel de Pon
Age & Teaching Position: 22, Choir
Living Arrangements: Teacher Dorms
Personality: Despite being one of the older fairies, Neris is very carefree and fun-loving Fairy of the Sea. Among the fairies she's the elder sister you would hang out at the mall, or gossip about boys with. Just for fun stuff, not for serious things. Serious things are best left for Selene. She somewhat lacks a sense of responsibility; possibly because she wasn't raised in a strict environment. Usually, she'd prefer to avoid any conflicts, making some excuses to get away from it. If she has no way of avoiding, she will try to attempt solving the conflict, but will not be good at it. She probably whined to depended on Selene a lot back when they lived in Popples. With how carefree she is, at times she's never seen as a dependable leader-type. She herself knows this too, so she tends to direct those who come for advice to another teacher who she knows will give better advice than herself.
The carefree, somewhat optimistic side can sometimes come off as being naive. She gives the benefit of the doubt to almost everyone, at least until the other does something that will endanger her loved ones. Once you're on her bad side, though, you will see her nasty, stormy side and that's never a nice thing to experience, especially if there's a large body of water nearby. She hates having negative feelings, so once a person goes on her bad side she will put some distance between herself and that person unless they make some kind of compensation for whatever they did. But it's probably really, really hard to get her angry...upset, most likely. It is possible to get her angry, if you want to see the city drowned by the sea.
She likes to dream of romance just as much as Elias, the water fairy, if not more. The two spent time gossiping with each other if they weren't singing together. Ironically, Neris herself isn't in love yet, but you will never hear that from her ever. She has a little habit of going off on a monologue, exaggerating on the scenario as she goes along. It doesn't happen frequently, but when it does she will spend a good 30 minutes in her own little world unless someone interrupts her. She loves gossiping about love interests and whatnot, so that is the easiest way to earn her friendship.
Neris just loves to sing. That is her most favorite past time, especially at the beach. She tends to hum to herself throughout the day, but at night (mostly when it's bright from the moonlight) when she goes out to the beach she sings to her heart's content. The songs she likes best are the ones composed by Elias, especially when they both sing together. She frowns at rock and rap, though; she considers that more of either yelling or talking really fast. She loves slow songs the best, especially love songs. Another favorite past time would be to take long baths, or swim in the swimming pool or the beach, preferably the beach.
Being the Fairy of the Sea, Neris certainly likes the ocean. She's friends with all of the sea creatures, and is able to communicate with them. Whenever she does, her voice may sound like a dolphin's squeaking that may or may not destroy electronics that are around or some sea creatures' noises. She knows it hurts humans' ears when she speaks in a mermaid's language, so she doesn't speak it unless there's no electronics or humans nearby.
If there's one kind of person she doesn't like to communicate with, it'd probably be the people who are too serious to smile. She won't try to force them to smile, but it kind of makes her feel a bit sad for the person.
She doesn't seem to be conscious about her appearance, but Neris does have an unconscious shyness of her tail. Among the fairies, she's the only one (Ok well there's Ruby with her wings, but she still has legs) who lacks legs. She doesn't think of this as a bad thing since she is a mermaid after all, but in a setting where school is on land, she knows well enough that having a finned tail instead of legs to walk on land would be pretty awkward. She won't outwardly say that she's a mermaid, and instead call herself "Fairy of the Sea," but if people realize that she's a mermaid she won't panic or anything outrageous like run away. Whenever she doesn't need to use it (IE out of the water) she uses her magic to give herself a pair of legs instead of a tail.
Since she's been living in the sea for almost her entire life, she has no clue how to use the majority of the technology. She has yet to see what a computer is, much less have enough practice of how to walk up stairs. She will probably look very, very clumsy for the first month or so.
Backstory:
Ah, the land of Popples, the world of fairies holding the powers to various kinds of elements, from jewels to the moon. Neris held the powers of the sea, and resided in the world of the seas in Popples. Neris was raised as an only child in her family. She was raised into a carefree young woman, who did what she wanted to do most of the time instead of learning her responsibilities as the next-in-line to inherit the world of the seas. She had spent lots of time playing with her friends of the sea if she wasn't singing to them or with Elias, a Water Fairy who was a very, very good friend of her's. If Neris wasn't out swimming around in the sea, she'd be spending time with Elias, singing the songs she composed. She did know of the other fairies, but Neris always felt closer to Elias more than the other fairies. That didn't mean she didn't care about the others, though; she was equally as kind to each of the fairies and always invited them into the enjoyment of singing songs and making music.
More laid back, pleasant days went on, until one day a mysterious dark cloud covered over her homeland. It turned out to be a curse that actually fell onto the majority of Popples, and Neris was one of the fairies who got affected by the curse, brainwashing her into a selfish cruel mermaid, disregarding the cries of her friends and left them defenseless as the dark magic swept through the sea. The sea became black and harsh waves clashed into anything that were in its path, going along with the rain that fell from above. Her parents? They were conveniently away at the time and probably was not notified of the incident until after everything was resolved and they returned.
But that didn't last for that long, fortunately. The Fairy of Flowers, Lip, came along. Neris, under the control of the dark spell, wasn't conscious of her doings as she lashed out at Lip upon encounter. The two fought under the dark rain, but that was dispersed as Lip rose victorious, undoing the dark magic. Neris returned to her kind self and decided to join up with the quest to save Popples.
The faries rescued Selene from the dark magic's spell, and entered Death Mountain, the stronghold of the enemy. There, they defeated the Phoenix and the Dragon, two followers of Lord Thanatos, and eventually fought against Thanatos himself. When Thanatos was defeated and he disappeared into the darkness, the fairies thought it was over...but it wasn't. A goddess appeared before them, calling herself Cordelia, and that she wasn't going to stop taking over the world of Popples at all costs...including the fairies' lives.
So they went against the goddess, and successfully defeated her. Upon her defeat, she disappeared into nothing, and the world of Popples returned to its original form. The fairies celebrated for their victory, but was cut short when Cordelia appeared again. Just when they thought they needed to fight again, Cordelia transformed to none other thanthe Queen of Fairies, Lip's mother!
The Queen explained that this was a challenge set for Lip to overcome, a test for her to see if Lip had what she needed to become the next Queen of Fairies...! Seeing how Lip had rescued all of the fairies and defeated the illusion monsters, she had passed the test. Lip was going to be the next queen! The other fairies, including Neris herself, cheered Lip on; Lip had the kindness to help out her friends in need, and an unbreakable will to go against any hardship. Neris was sure Lip would grow up to be a suitable queen!
And with the peace restored to Popples, the fairies returned to their homelands. Neris returned to her sea, where she resumed living her usual, playful days in the sea.
After some time, though, Neris got a word that Lip had left Popples to study in a school called Smash Academy. Soon later, she received the news that Selene had left also. At first, Neris didn't take note of the place, not gaining enough interest in what kind of school it was. Her parents, on the other hand, started to become interested in the place. A place for people to go and master their powers, plus about various of other things? At first they considered having Neris be enrolled in there as a student. But upon hearing this, Neris blurted out that if she were to be in school, she would rather be a teacher... Then a thought hit her; if she were going to teach, why not teach what she liked to do the most? Surely it wouldn't be hard!
Thus, Neris decided to sign up for the staff position of teaching choir.
Anything Else?:
Some of her magical powers as a "fairy":
- talk to sea animals
- create waves use surf from the ocean
- give herself legs
When she's out of the water she has legs 8)
Among the fairies, she's the closest to Elias.
The game doesn't say the ages for all the fairies, so I am just guessing she would be around what I stated. But as stated in the personality section, even though she's the oldest, she doesn't have the leadership skills Selene holds to be dependable by the other faries.
In-Character 1st person writing sample (journal):
Good afternoon Smash Academy, it's a pleasure to meet you all~!
My name is Neris, and I will be teaching Chior this coming school year! Let's all have fun, okay~?
Hi Lip! Hello Selene! How have you two been doing~? It's been so long since the other fairies, including me, had seen you! We've been a biiit worried!
In-Character 3rd person writing post:
Neris stretched out her legs--err tail, as she sat at the edge of the pool. The walk from the beach to the school had tired her rarely-used legs out very much, and she was relieved to know there was a lake and a large pool on campus. This way, she'd be able to stretch her fins out whenever she could! Being able to walk on land was something, but she didn't like how there were so many steps... Oh, how she almost tripped so many times while going through buildings...! Being in the water was the best.
She quickly slipped into the pool and swam around underwater to her heart's content.
