"One's real life is so often the life that one does not lead." Oscar Wilde.
(I read that quote in a book (Special Topics in Calamity Physics) a few minutes ago, and it just struck me.)

This year has been unexciting thus far. At the very least, New Year's Eve did not causes me to panic in reaction to the dread that overcame me at the time. That's promising. There was, however, a minute sense of loss. It lasted for a moment, and then it was gone.

Yesterday I was looking at grad schools for some reason that is completely beyond me. It's not something that I'll have to worry about for another year and a half at least, but that period of time can pass in the blink of an eye. By the time I get there, I'm sure that I'll know exactly where I want to be and what I want to do, because that's the kind of person I am- I'll panic about something in advance, and then be calm when the time comes to get things done. At first glance, the University of Chicago seems amazing. Challenging, but worth it. But, like I said, no need to worry about it now.

I'm almost ready to go back to school now. I've had the time I needed to recharge, and now I'm fine. I do, however, want to see people. And I want a chance to go to the Metropolitan Museum of Art (despite the fact that it has nothing what I want to do with my life, I applied for an internship there, because it's such an amazing place. God, I hope I get it). Also, I desperately need a haircut, which needs to be done here, as I refuse to get my hair cut at Walmart. I have some sense of dignity.

I've been seized by the desire to read poetry. Poetry by Lord Byron, to be specific. Which I'll go do now.

new year, the future, quotes
