So I am home visiting my parents for the week. They are members of a kennel club and the club's dog show was today. Was waiting for them to come home so we could all eat dinner when I got a call saying they would be running late. Turns out a great dane attacked a three year old and a bench hearing was needed. (it is basically a meeting of club officials who interview all the witnesses and participants and determine if anyone acted negligently and should be banned from dog shows) But this particular dog was the family pet of the handler who was a 15 year old girl. The dog will now most likely have to be put down. I feel bad for all involved but I can't stop thinking about what the girl must be going through. If that had been me when I was 15... I don't know if I could've lived with myself. Even if the behavior of your dog is not your fault you feel responsible for their actions. And then to know that your beloved pet will die as a result... I cannot even begin to fathom the anguish.
All I can offer is my sincerest condolences...
And dog show world, I despise you so very much. No living thing should ever have to die just because it was having a bad day. And no 15 year old should ever have to deal with such a situation.
