Before I take a car for an MOT I like to check the tyre pressures, wash it and vacuum it out - you know, make it presentable. Another thing my Dad always told me to do with a diesel in particular is to put some diesel treatment in with the fuel and give the car a good run - to clean it up on the inside a bit for the emissions test.
Well, before my mot, I said to Rob that perhaps we had better do the treatment thing as I had some in my boot, and Dad's diesel always seems to pass its emissions test this way. Rob thought it was a crap idea because 1) fuel treatments are an expensive waste of money that don't work and 2) my Dad suggetsed it - therefore over-ruling Rob's car authority, so a bad thing.
So I didn't do it.
It failed the emissions test. The garage thought it was a failed exhaust valve, so off to the Vauxhall garage it went. Before we took it, I mentioned the fuel treatment again and got the reply 'I don't know why you keep going on about this - it won't make a scrap of difference.' So I didn't do it.
Anyway, I got a call from Vauxhall this afternoon 'Hi your car is ready to pick up - we just put some fuel treatment in it and gave it a good run and it's passed the emissions test - that's £56.99 please'
Well well well.
I told Rob, who said ' I cannot believe that!' but not in a suprised tone - but a sulky 'I know better' tone.
So thats the car story. I didn't have time to pick it up today as Pat was having his shoes done straight after work. His cow neighbours escaped out of the field again this morning and Pat apparently went racing about the field in excitement, and now has a swollen fetlock joint on his back left leg. So I spent a while hosing it down. Hopefully it will be better tomorrow!
