The vast majority of fountain pens these days use cartridges of ink. Much less messy that way and they don't run out too much faster than ballpoints. You have to really look to find ones that still use the bladder and lever system and most of those are either really expensive or vintage/antiques. (I know, I want one and have looked.) But you can get half-decent cartridge pens at Michaels for about $9.

*nods* I inherited a ton of the lever kind (And an awesome little ink bottle that's spill-proof and eighty years old), but I've only ever seen the cartridge ones in stores. $10-30.

Hoarder grandpa. Most of them rusted shut probably 50 years ago.

That doesn't mean I still don't want to go through them and see if any of them can be salvaged, at least for parts. I've lost so many of the cartridge kind over the years. Usually by people taking them.

Yeah. It might be amusing to open one up and see if it can be made to work again.

He wants the Mont Blanc John Lennon Special Edition, which uses the piston system. Look it up on Mont Blanc's website. The thing is a goddamn work of art, but no price is listed. Which should worry anyone.

Also, Mont Blanc's website is poorly designed with a crappy interface.

All that, plus, he works in a prison. To a VT, that's a weapon. Really bad idea to have on your desk.

It's not my taste, but it is a damn pretty pen.

Their website needs to die.

Yeah, I am so going to Michaels tomorrow and picking up a cartridge pen and some ink. (I am still mad all my Windsor and Newton inks dried up.)

For utter pretentious snotbaggery, I use a dip pen for writing. Because I take it all the way.

ALL THE WAY.

Also, I have some Higgins fountain pen ink. You want it? I bought it for a project that never happened at the moment, its just sitting on my shelf. Say the word and I'll bring it to work for you.
