Title: Raised From Perdition, Take 2
Author: pandionpandeus
Rating: G
Characters/Pairings: Sam/Gabriel
Summary: Someone had to. Gabriel just happened to be closest.
Notes: Written for a comment_fic prompt. There are a couple places that are bothering me for backstory, though, so there might be more of this at some point. I'm making no promises, though.

He wakes up, blinking up at an overcast sky. For a moment, it's so incongruous with the place he'd just been, he can't quite grasp it.

Then he feels the ground below him, sees a bird fly past overhead. And it's familiar, in the way it is to all of humankind.

Sitting up slowly, he raises one hand and looks at it.

It's his. All his. There's no fallen angel pushing him back into a corner of his own mind and taking over his body's motions. His lips curve into a smile and he relishes the now odd sensation.

He's free. He doesn't know how or why, but he's free.

"Good morning, Princess," a voice says and Sam can't quite bring himself to be surprised, when he looks up into honey eyes.

"Gabriel," he says happily. "I'm me."

Gabriel quirks a fond grin. "I know, kiddo. You might want to check out your shoulder."

Frowning slightly, Sam pulls up the right sleeve of his T-shirt, but doesn't see anything, so he rolls up the other. Raised and puffy, the red hand print shows up stark against his skin. He blinks at it, remembering a similar burn on Dean's shoulder.

He looks back up at Gabriel. "Did you...?"

Gabriel shrugs, glancing away. "Someone had to, kiddo. I just happened to be closest."

Sam's not really listening, grinning widely at the Trickster archangel and scrambling to stand up, wincing slightly as the burn stretched. But then he's standing in front of Gabriel and the archangel is looking at him again, as if worried he'll fall over.

Reaching out, Sam tugs Gabriel in closer and tempers his grin into a softer smile. "Thanks," he says softly. Gabriel shifts, as if embarrassed, but doesn't make any move to get away.

Sam leans down, slow enough that his intent is clear and Gabriel can avoid it if he wants to, but he doesn't and then Sam's kissing him. It's just a light press of lips, but Gabriel's pressing back and really, that's all Sam had wanted, right now.

He pulls away after a few seconds, but doesn't go far. "Thank you," he says again and this time Gabriel smiles back. A hand snakes around his neck and he's pulled back into the kiss, Gabriel's lips moving against his in a muffled reply.

"No, thank you."
