Lord of the dance

Jan 19, 2007 22:19

I've had this hymn stuck in my head all day; or at least the bits i remember from school.

I remembered:

I danced in the morning when the world was begun,

And I danced in the moon and the stars and the sun,

I came down from heaven and I danced on the earth;

At Bethlehem I had my birth.

Dance, then, wherever you may be;

I am the Lord of the Dance, said he,

And I'll lead you all, wherever you may be,

And I'll lead you all in the dance, said he.

I danced for the scribe and the pharisee,

But they would not dance and they would not follow me.

I danced for the fishermen, for James and John

They came with me and the dance went on.

Dance, then, wherever you may be;

I am the Lord of the Dance, said he,

And I'll lead you all, wherever you may be,

And I'll lead you all in the dance, said he.

I also remembered the following part phrases:

"I danced on the Sabbath and I cured the lame"

"It's hard to dance with the devil on your back"

"They left me there on the cross to die"

"I'll live in you if you'll live in me"

I found my spirits uplifted greatly during and immediately after singing the song in my head; and even more so when out loud (when I was on my *own* in the university computer room). I must look out other hymns I enjoyed as a child.

The other that comes immediately to mind (though sadly not the tune) is:

Praise Him on the trumpet, psaltery and harp.

Praise Him on the timbrel and the dance.

Praise Him with stringed instruments too.

Praise Him on the loud cymbals,

Praise Him on the loud cymbals.

Let everything that has breath praise the Lord!

Hallelujah, praise the Lord.

Hallelujah, praise the Lord.

Let everything that has breath praise the Lord!

Hallelujah, praise the Lord.

Hallelujah, praise the Lord.

Let everything that has breath praise the Lord!

Anybody else got a hymn that has stuck in their head since childhood?

hymn, day
