"The art of conversation consist as much in listening politely, as in talking agreeably." - Atwell
...After thousand of drafts/edits/indefinite plots, I finally came up with a lame permanent one. I'm really sorry
shinigamitenshi-neesan if it took me so long to write this one, because this was supposed to be my birthday gift for you. ^^ But, then, the writer's block kicked in, and that every time I open the Word Processor, I don't even know where to begin. -_-;; I'm really sorry! *bows down to your feet* I hope you like it, even though it's short and look pretty rushed. *is shy because you write way, way better than her*

Ways to Win a Man’s Heart
pandarot Sometimes, Kai just didn’t understand Rei. Sure, they’d been friends for four years now, and had been together for a four full months now, but there were still some things Rei did and said that didn’t make sense to Kai at all; that and Rei’s strange behaviors as well. Kai figured it was only normal between lovers, but as time went on, he started to believe that it was already part of who Rei was and what he was from the beginning.
Like today, for example, Kai noted drably as he silently watched his lover beside the couch, looking at the space and pouting for no apparent reason at all. It would have been amusing watching this other side of Rei, the one he often hid from the usual calm and reserved one, if it wasn’t really aimed at him.
"Rei -"
"It’s Christmas, you know."
Like Kai needed to be reminded by that. "Yes, I know." And it was also the main reason why their practice was canceled as well. "Kinomiya and the others asked for a delay for such trivial occasion - it’s a wonder you didn’t joined them."
Rei’s brows knitted slightly, and he dared a look at Kai. "So, I see that you’re still mad at Takao for calling you a killjoy," he said dryly, making the other boy wince at once. "But then, you can’t stop him. After all, he just wanted to have some time with his family...and Max."
"And what does Mizuhara have to do with anything?"
"Oh, nothing," Rei hummed, looking at the ceiling. "Can you actually believe that those two bought a ticket to Tropical Land? It’s pretty new - and pretty nice, too - so they decided to spend some Christmas time in there; in fact, they invited us in, but -" Rei gave Kai that same hopeful look again. "- I realized you wouldn’t appreciate it as much as we do, so I declined."
"Of course," Kai said firmly, crossing his arms over his chest. "Those things are for kids, after all."
Rei’s eyes narrowed then, but he looked away again. "Never mind that. So, did you know what Kyouju did for Christmas?"
Kai’s eyes flickered at this. "Oh, you mean the upgrades he made to our beys?" He took Dranzer in his pocket and showed it to Rei with utmost pride. "He made a lighter but nonetheless stronger blade for me, and I must say it was beyond perfect. Dranzer now moves more smoothly than ever, and -"
"Not that," Rei cut petulantly, waving his hands dismissively before the older boy could go any further. "I’m talking about his plans for Christmas! I never thought someone like Kyouju could actually have enough courage to ask Hiromi out on a date - or at least, having dinner with his family sounds like one - and it’s Hiromi we’re talking about here."
"He asked Tachibana?" Kai sounded more horrified than amused. "You got to be kidding me. I’m sure she declined the moment he said that out loud."
"Well, in fact, she agreed," Rei opposed, frowning. "And you got to give Kyouju some credit, Kai. Hiromi is pretty, she has taste, and she definitely have a lot of suitors dying to ask her out on a date, but she chooses Kyouju among them, and that makes him special." He looked up at Kai again. "And that’s really sweet of him. Don’t you think?"
Kai snorted. "What is so special about that?" He leaned his head against the couch and closed his eyes. "All you do is eat, and it’s not like you can’t do it alone, either." Another snort. "Definitely a waste of time."
"Damn it, Kai," Rei said finally, scowling and glaring at the boy beside him. "Don’t you have any plans for Christmas?"
This made Kai look up at him somehow, which was great, because Rei had been dead set in gaining his lover’s attention since this morning but to no avail because Kai kept on talking about beyblades and practices to no end.
Rei never thought there would come a day when he’d get jealous of beyblade, but he definitely just did.
"Look, Rei -"
"I’m...free, you know," Rei said almost off-handedly - and it took him by surprise as well - but then, there’s no way he could take those words back; not anymore when Kai straightened on his seat and was looking at him like that, and blinked...and blinked once more...and it suddenly reminded him the first time they’d been together, and -
"That’s great," Kai said before standing up and heading to the big dish before them. "I’m glad you didn’t waste your time on such trivial things - we really should concentrate on practices instead."
- Fuck.
"GO PRACTICE ALONE!" Rei exclaimed, making the other flinch with his harsh tone. "THE NEXT TIME YOU PLANNED TO GET YOURSELF A BOYFRIEND, LEARN TO BECOME AT LEAST ROMANTIC, WILL YOU?" And then, he glared at Kai. "Killjoy."
Kai watched as Rei walked out the door and couldn’t help but wonder what made Rei so irate all of a sudden.
Oh, what a great Christmas it was for them.
