"All you need in the world is love and laughter. That's all anybody needs. To have love in one hand and laughter in the other." - August Wilson
Because I'm bored, I would like to share my drabble to everyone. ^_^ *ignores the SONA*
Title: Solace
Author:
pandarotRating: PG-13
Pairing: Ed x Roy
Spoilers: None
Warnings: Slight angst/drama, slight AU and nightmare-troubled!Roy
Summary: Everyone thinks that Colonel Roy Mustang is strong, but honestly, he's just like the rest of us.
Notes: Well, I know that not all people like how the Military works in FMA, but let's just say they all are for plot's sake. *sweatdrops* Anyway, I always have this thought that Roy isn't as strong as he appears to be, given that his power is flame and all. When you burn someone like that, I don't think you can sleep tight at night. ^_^ (Actually, listening too much to 'RIVER' (Gundam Seed) and Taiyou Wa Matta Kagayaku Kitto' (Yuu Yuu Hakusho) made me write this drabble in the first place =P)

Solace
pandarot A lot of people admired the Military’s power in its entirety. The way they took serious cases without any sweat; always there to protect civilians even if it would cause their lives. More often, although gruesome, the Military would kill without any second thought if people proved to be menace for the peace and order of the City.
All of these were in Colonel Roy Mustang’s everyday work, but despite the fame he received from his job, he couldn’t help but to feel fear as well.
Unlike other people, nighttime had become a plague for Roy. For him, nighttime meant going home alone and getting sleep. The mere thought of sleeping was the only thing that driven Roy to stay at work longer, just so he could forget how to sleep and avoid seeing those scary nightmares of the people he burned alive with his flame for the sake of the civilians, crying and begging him for their lives...
No one seemed to notice one bit, mainly because it was himself who insist to be fine. There’s the occasional eye bugs, but other people considered them as an act of perseverance and personal strive to get a good promotion, or so they said.
If only they knew.
Sex had been a temporary cure for him, but as much as he could control it, he only resorted to this when he could no longer control his drowsiness. Picking women was not hard considering that they only need little flowery words and a little push and they would willingly give themselves to him. Maybe it’s because of the fleeting pleasure he felt during the climax and the brief warmth he felt during the afterglow, but after that, Roy still felt the same.
Sometimes, he wondered if he could ever find eternal solace.
...And ironically, someone did.
Edward Elric had always been a trouble for him, although Roy cared for him very much. He never saw the boy as anymore but a kid and Ed himself didn’t think of Roy as anymore but a self-indulgent fool, but things just...happened. You would never know what life has in store for you unless the right time comes, and that is what happened to Roy.
He never thought that his cure had been near to him all along.
"Are you all right?"
Again, Roy found himself waking up slowly from a bad dream; his whole body was covered with sweat and his damp blanket was tossed around on the cold floor. He tried to ease his breath, and when he felt he could control himself again, he turned around and looked at the blonde’s worried eyes. For a moment, he could see himself -- looking all pathetic and weak -- reflected in the boy’s amber eyes and wondered if he was losing himself too much from that dream again.
"Aa." And they were back to normal, with Ed sitting on the other side of Roy’s bed while leaning over his face and Roy looking straight at the boy’s face for any uncertainties. Silence overwhelmed them until Ed’s eyes soften and said, "I’m here."
They were only simple words -- two simple words that assured Roy that someone was still there for him; willing to take away the harshness of reality and the nightmares that plagued his sleep every night, all by saying those two simple words and he was saved.
Without a word, Roy reached for Ed’s body and hugged him tightly, closing his eyes and savoring the warmth that only the boy could give. When Ed returned the embrace unquestioningly, he found the peace he was looking for.
He drifted back from sleep after that.
