[summary] Suki Desu Suzuki-kun!! Chapter 19
This one will be more of a treat for all you ShinobuxChihiro fans out there! :3 Also I apologise to all of you who are patiently waiting for my summaries, but I won't be able to give you any more summaries until the end of June! Exams are coming up, after all. ^^;; Please bear with me~
After the eventful school trip, Shinobu is in a marvellous mood. He feels that there's been progress between him and Chihiro, that perhaps she likes him more than she lets on and maybe things are going to work out between them (followed by the narration: "Honestly speaking, Shinobu is getting a bit carried away."). Moments after his revelations, he catches a glimpse of Chihiro in the distance who appears to smile and wave at him. But in fact, she’s greeting one of her 'fans', who's back instantly meets with Shinobu's "laser beam" glare when he realises this.
The school is a bustle with everyone preparing for the upcoming sports festival. Shinobu, who's to be the captain of the white team for the cavalry battle, is trying on his "Sengoku military commander, Date "One-eyed Dragon" Masamune" costume, much to the delight of all the girls. When Shinobu struggles to remove the eye-patch, Chihiro comes to his rescue. But when Chihiro has trouble removing it herself, Shinobu is more than content with it never coming off at this point.
Later when Chihiro is carrying some heavy boxes, Hikaru comes running to take the boxes off her (at which point he momentarily has his hand over hers), telling her she should let the guys do that stuff. She blushes and then notes to Hikaru that recently the air between him and Hoshino has changed, not only that they get along well, but it's like a bond of trust has formed between them. Hikaru then agrees, saying that a lot has happened lately, as he remembers the day Hoshino was sick. After Hikaru leaves, Chihiro kisses the hand Hikaru held and says, "I think it's about time...", then thinks to herself, "Hikaru is important to me, but so is Hoshino. It might be best for me to distance myself from Hikaru, because I'll keep on loving him if I stay by his side..." In the distance, Shinobu watches her sullenly.
On the day of the sports festival, Hikaru and Hoshino are being as lovey dovey as ever. Meanwhile, while Shinobu is slacking off away from all the action, he overhears a bunch of shady girls badmouthing Chihiro, saying that she's gotten carried away just because she's cute. They plan to embarrass her during the cavalry battle by all attacking her at once and ripping her clothes off. Shocked, Shinobu quickly turns around to stop them but they've suddenly disappeared, "You've got to be kidding me!! You think I'll let others see Chihiro naked?!" He then runs off to find Hoshino.
It's the girl's cavalry battle and Chihiro is rearing to go. She notices something is off about Hoshino (facemask, cloudy glasses, deeper voice, taller etc.) yet still doesn't suspect that it's actually Shinobu dressed as Hoshino, who is all geared up himself, "I'm grateful, glasses girl! No one's laying a single finger on Itou!" With that he blitz' the match, removing all the girls’ headbands in a blur, and ending it within seconds. [Narration: From that day onwards, Sayaka became known as "Iron Hoshino".] When Chihiro gives Hoshino(Shinobu) a celebratory hug, Shinobu who’s not used to being so happy, quickly runs away, dropping his eye-patch in the process.
Later, when Shinobu and Hoshino are changing back into their own clothes, Shinobu thanks Hoshino and apologises for going a bit too far in her form. Hoshino replies happily, "Not at all, you fought magnificently. I'm glad Chihiro is safe too, and it makes me happy that I was able to help her." Shinobu is a little taken back, and for once he calls her by her name instead of "glasses girl", "How do I say this...it's about that...even though it's long overdue, sorry for calling you ugly back when he first met. When I look carefully, you're not ugly at all!" He then dashes off, leaving Hoshino a little flustered, "Could it be that Shinobu is actually a kind person...?"
Chihiro, who has just overheard their conversation and figured out what has happened, approaches Shinobu when he realises he's lost his eyepatch, "Looking for this?" She turns him around and starts putting it on for him while musing over how she originally thought Shinobu was a detestable guy, but now knows that that's not true. She thinks to herself, "Shinobu, you told me you'll make me change my mind and look at you instead, but I've never once mentioned that I would give up on Hikaru. Is that because you understand too...? That even if the person you love loves someone else, it doesn't meaning your feelings will just disappear...?" Lost in thought, she accidentally sticks the eye-patch on Shinobu's nose, and ends up cracking up laughing. When Shinobu sees her laughing with no holds barred, he remarks, "That's rare. Whenever I see you, you look like you're going to cry or you're forcing yourself to smile. I like it, show me that side of you more." His brilliant smile while he says that leaves a beet-red Chihiro speechless. [Narration: Faced for the first time with Suzuki Shinobu-kun's heart-melting smile, not even Itou Chihiro-san could stop herself from being smitten.]
The chapter ends with Hikaru and Hoshino dancing together alone instead of joining the school folk dance, as Hikaru wanted Hoshino all to himself. [Narration: The sound of the folk dance echoes sweetly in the hearts of lovers...] Then you see Chihiro faced with Shinobu as her next partner in the dance, one overjoyed and the other terribly self-conscious. Both blushing, they reach out to take each other's hand. [Narration: ...And warmly embraces those whose hearts are burdened with the pain of unrequited love.]
YAY! Chihiro's heart is beginning to waver for Shinobu~~ But who wouldn't after that dashing smile of his?! I'm also glad that Shinobu was nice to Hoshino for once. ^^v
