running notes on Teen Titans #19
Previously in Teen Titans: Titans #17, 18.
The United States has been split into two: east and west. The Eastern United States is obviously the good guy, because pedestrians have the right of way. ahem. The East consists of 12 states, and the West of the other 38.
Eastern President Duncan.
The west is a police state, freedom sacrificed for security. Dark Raven ate the people's emotions to keep them subdued.
Cyborg 2.0 has been preparing for the arrival of the current!Titans for 3 years, and the Titans of the future re-formed 4 years ago from the future shown, making that 6 years in the future. "Outside forces" made the West Titans all crazy.
Origin of this future is the disbanding of the current!Titans after their return from the future. Man, time travel makes my head hurt.
Okay, so we have another reference to the upcoming Crisis. Without the Titans, things hit the fan apparently. huh.
Mr. Twister is a bad guy who can cause hurricanes.
Red Star and Mirage are "freedom fighters" for the East, but were captured and charged w/ treason against the West.
Okay, so real roll call for Titans East: The Ravager, Bumblebee, Captain Marvel (no longer Jr.), Batwoman (Bette Kane), Cyborg 2.0, and Terra.
Titans East headquarters are in New York, not far from the Statue of Liberty.
Apparently, Gar joined the western Titans, because he couldn't stand to be on the same team as Terra, but I'm thinking more "outside forces" stuff too.
Future!Starfire is having a wonderful life somewhere far way with Nightwing, according to Batwoman.
Slade gave the schematics of the Batcave to Captain Marvel. The Cosmic Treadmill is there.
mmm. Love the splash page. Multiple Barts.
Whoa. Captain Marvel Jr. had the hots for Wonder Girl? weirdness. I can't think of anytime they've interacted in the past, so this must be another future thing after he joins the Titans.
Ravager and Aquagirl used to be good friends.
Batman lives in Drake Manor. He uses the gun that shot the Waynes. He also has a behavior altering/memory removing machine.
Captain Marvel revealed his true self to Tim in the past.
Future!Batman still has Bruce's Kryptonite.
Fight btw Robin and Batman rocked hardcore, but my favorite thing is the end, where Robin is surrounded by bats.
Alright, so. Bette Kane was Flamebird, but was later Tim!Batman's protege, and became Batwoman. Future!Tim killed Bette, so that explains the read and green costume we saw in the last issue and also the headstone, but Bette was raised from the dead by Ra's Al Ghul. No idea if this is the old Ra's or the new one from Death and the Maidens. Bette was rather friendly with Tim, so I'm guessing they weren't just partners at work. Could be the ex-girlfriend Joker's Daughter was referring to in #17.
Oh, Johns, you bad man. armclasp! Tim/Kon 4eva. mmmm.
liviapenn totally called this one. "Pa" from the previous issues is Lex Luthor. Luthor is wearing one black glove (kryptonite poisoning?) and has a picture of himself with Kon (in his Superboy getup, black t-shirt) on the mantle. Creepy.
So, DC Countdown and future Crisis coming soon, I guess. It'll be interesting to look back at everything and see how it all tied together. If it actually does, that is.
